Ahem. I feel better now.

Eff ABC? you do realize that Lost needed more time to make episodes, right?

No network would ever willingly stop airing a hugely successful show just on a whim.
They want the ratings and the ad revenue. The Lost crew just couldn't make them fast enough.

So direct your anger at JJ...

BTW... way to actually read the article, OP.

It says: "Is the sun Going Down on Day Break?" and asks the question if it's canceled. nothing official has been announced.

in fact...

Abcmedianet had the following paragraph in todays press release:

ABC?s ?Day Break? retained 100% of its week ago Adults 18-49 performance (1.8/5), while growing over the previous week among Women 18-34 (1.6/4 vs. 1.4/5) and Women 18-49 (2.1/5 vs. 2.0/6).

Sorry fans of the show. Sorry Taye.

Unless you are a Neilson family it wouldn't have mattered.

Last year, I got a Neilson survey that they sent in the mail along with ~$3 cash. I was supposed to keep it for a week and fill it out for shows I watched. I usually download everything, so I just filled everything out as if I actually watched it on TV. If two shows contradicted, I just said I recorded one.

They basically told you that the show was going to have no story from the preview. A show where you know that every day is going to start from the same place. Essentially implying, if you've seen one, you've seen them all. So if the first episode wasnt good, it would be naturally assumed that the story wasnt going to pick up and go somewhere, but go round and round, remaining boring.

Maybe that is or isnt the case, but thats the impression it gave. They also bombarded lost with so many commercials for it that it became a running joke. "What if every time you watched lost, you had to relive the same commercial, over and over?"

Ripping off a comedy (groundhogs day) to make a cookie cutter action series, and to take everyones favorite show off the air for weeks for it, is not going to be popular.

How does a show that was only going to have 12 eps or so get cancelled.

yea, they're pulling shows a lot faster now a days. CBS's Smith and NBC's (I think) 3lbs both got pulled after only three episodes. I wonder how many good shows we're missing out on because they're being pulled too fast. A lot of past hits sucked in the beginning and they never would've grown to be successes if they were pulled after only three eps.
I wish 3 Lbs hadn't been cancelled. I liked that show. While I wasn't able to watch it when it aired, I DVRed it and watched it the next weekend.

Holy crap, they pulled 3 lbs already?!?!? With Smith, they've pulled two new shows that were decent before they had a chance to grab an audience. And, yet, Big Brother keeps having successive seasons.

I think the appropriate weight for a TV executive is more along the lines of 1 lb...

Awesome job filling out the survey.....EXCEPT, the Ratings as of now only account for overnight viewing, along with a "Live +7" report that shows DVR shows viewed within a week of live broadcast. So, a more accurate report according to you would have been that you watched no TV. Believe me, I hope Nielsen can hopefully soon incorporate ratings viewed from BT downloads, iTunes shows, etc. It would be easy with the new Nielsen technology as basically everything broadcast on TV has an embedded SID (station ID) code that shows date and time.

You received a diary that was used (probably) in your local metered market to help during one of the 4 Sweeps periods.

Depending on your city, you probably live in a market that has 500 homes hooked up with the electronic metering equipment. That market probably does not use push button "people meters" to determine the exact demographics of a person watching any given show, so a methodologist extracted the data of what was watched in the Nielsen home, demographics of the said home, and corroborated that information along with all of the diaries they sent out in your area.

Homes with electronic equipment (without the exact methodology of the push button people meters) + paper diaries sent out to folks like you = more exact idea of the demographics that a certain show pulled in.

The national 10,000 home sample has push button meters, and the top 10 local markets have been converted from 400-500 metered homes with extra diaries to 800 or so metered homes WITH push buttons (aka local people meter markets).

If your diary wasn't counted towards a local market (don't know your exact location), then it was probably a failsafe diary sent out on the national level.

Okay, I was bored :Q

Yes, Smith was a personal fave....GO TO CBS INNERTUBE. You can watch all the recorded eps of Smith, and can read the synopsis of what happens at the end. It would have been one of the best seasons of a show on TV.

Big Brother, love it or hate it, pulls decent numbers and has a very dedicated fanbase. I personally love it, and know that CBS rides the S#^@ out of it every year (3 eps a week, massive online interaction, online marketplace for watching 24/7).
