It's supposed to have but you should have tried B06 "R" too.

New member needs some serious help:

Running a BH6 & P500 (old eh?) for 7 years now, even with XP flawlessly, it was time for a new computer. No wonder that after ~months~ of research i bought a QuadGT and a Conroe E6600 (and the rest) and build the new thing myself.

So far so good, until it came to installing Vista Business-OEM.
Days of surfing learned me that the JMicron chip can't present itself as a single controller (i.e. before o.s. installed) and the Vista installer can't handle that situation.
Vista repeats asking for a CD/DVD driver, and after presenting any kind of standard or Jmicron driver, RAID or dual IDE, and whatever IDE mode or RAID mode enabled in bios, all ends up with the message that 'no new device' is found ??

Having a SATA harddrive on ICH8 and a legacy CD/DVD reader on the JMicron IDE channel, Vista is apparently not going to install. I know, a SATA DVD machine plugged on ICH8 will get me further, but another problem is that it is really a pain (in Holland) to get a Plextor 760 or 755 capable of SATA. I want such a Plextor so i'm just not willing to buy me even the cheapest SATA Samsung DVD player just to get over the problem right away. Enough money in all the other parts, you see?

I've installed bios .B06 and it did not help. If anybody can say that .B08 will help me i will install it, but no confidence at the moment. Found a .B08 and a .BIN within the same .rar file so what shall it be?

Any ideas out there, or shall i wait :-(((( !!! another two or three weeks to get that SATA Plextor, if available anyway down here.

It's really the first time i gave up and submitted meself to a forum, after installing 1000 times Win95 through WinXp on 100 machines with all kinds of hard/soft probs.

Thanks in advance for any tip that works.

I would recommend trying B6R, B07, or B08. B07 officially fixed some problems with the SATA controller, so B08 should have those fixes as well. B6R which is a modified version of B07 seems to also help, you'd need to go onto the Abit forums to get a copy of B6R from Richh.

Thanks LiQiCE, but the problem remains with B08.

What's left is getting that SATA DVD, even if i have to pull someone over a desk threatening him that i will delete the split in his hair if that Plextor is not coming my way rightaway. (And i might try a network install from my old computer while disabling JMicron, but not today.)

It's a stupid chicken or egg thing, since there's enough evidence that once Vista (or any OS) is running, you can get the JMicron doing what it's supposed to do and attach eSATA along with legacy IDE.

The new BIOS seems to work fairly well. Still can't install xp from an IDE DVD, I get the c0000221 error.

Can't remember now if I had flashed the BIOS to 1.1 first or not, once I unplugged the IDE drives everything was fine. I have them connected now with no problems, just had to install xp from SATA drive. You should be fine though, I haven't heard of this being an issue either.

I just got my Quad GT and e6420 up and running. For those having problems with the board upgrade to the latest BIOS here. This upgrade requires a floppy drive.

http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/ab9quadgt/m621e13.zip

I bought this board for its overclocking abilities to be honest I have read the overclocking guides and still somewhat clueless Any tips or links would be appreciated for help with the Dual Core e6420 and Quad GT.

I still have a problem with my wireless USB keyboard working outside of Windows. It works in BIOS but does not work for booting from an optical drive. I tried setting the BIOS to control the keyboard. Huge mistake! I could not get any OS to install. After finally tinkering with fail-safe options I realized my mistake, and put a USB to PS/2 adapter. Finally was able to get into XP install.

Spend some time in here (VERY long thread, but useful to the max)

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=132392

and
when abits forum is back online, here (semi official OC thread)

http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?t=123399

Most of the info you need is there. My advice is use Uguru in windows. Download the latest version for XP or Vista and set your multi in bios and use uguru to play with FSB and voltages till you find your limits at each multi. It saves ALOT of time from working in bios alone. Best OC utility I have ever worked with.

Few caveats: Its temps are off, so use Coretemp while you are playing around as its accurate. TAT does not work with QuadGT so don't bother.

In bios set your Strap (PSB) to 1066 and link CPU-DRAM 1:1 and go from there. In CPU advanced settings disable all of them except the one that says 2 bit or something similar.

Aim for 500 FSB as thats where you will find the greatest performance imo if your CPU/memory/NB can handle it. It requires good cooling. If you can do 1:1 at 500+ FSB your golden.

Good luck!

known issue, use bios 13 which is now official 1.3 version. Download link 2 posts up. Should fix your problem as I think its the only change from 1.1

Got a fast question and I'm looking for a fast answer please
What's the thing with this pwm and what does it do? In bios if I select them for monitoring, what's the highest temp i can select for warning. And why does uguru give me a warning for cpu running at 39degreese and for all pwm's running at around 44 degrees? Let me also post a picture to show you what I mean, maybe I'm not so good to describe in words.

PWM is basically the boards power circuitry.
The default warning level on the QuadGT is 125C, I've never tried setting it higher as that's plenty hot ...

As for why you are getting warnings at 39C & 44C look at how all your high limits are set at 0C - 39C & 44C are over 0C hence a warning.
Try setting the defaults again.

I'm somewaht confused. Latest post here seems to be from july 2007 (linear look, am i wrong?), which means that everybody is VERY happy with the Quad GT ? At least i am, but a very small thing i would like to mention.
It's about the numbering of the SATA ports of the motherboard. I connected a second harddrive, and thought it would be logical to connect both harddrives to SATA nr. 1 and 2, and the CD/DVD drive to SATA nr 3.
PlexTools (Plextor) reports me the first harddrive and the CD/DVD dive on SATA controller 1, and the second harddrive on an IDE controller.
Is this a dumb thing of Plextor, or is the port numbering on the motherboard itself not correct, e.g. 1 and 3 connected to controller 1, and 2 and 4 connected to controller 2, or such a thing ??

Anybody an idea ?
