PROBLEM

Computer won't boot.

ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS

1)I have power running to the board, the standoffs are in place, I have troubleshooted multiple powersupplies, still doesn't boot.

2)I have switched cases as well because it may have been a bad case starter switch, still doesn't boot.

3)I have tried new power railings to the mobo main plug, and aux. plug.

This is a brand new Abit AX8 motherboard out of the box. It has changed hands once prior to my receiving it. My friend swears he did not touch the board at all. I tend tobelieve him since the box, and the board were in prestine condition, and the board itself smelled brand new.

What could be the problem, I need Anandtech's help.

Thanks,

Try a bare post outside the case. I install the video card with the lower portion hanging over the edge of the box the board came in or a phonebook, making sure it's seated straight. Also reseat the memory.

I've tried that already, the computer still does not start up. =(

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Tried clearing the cmos using the jumper or removing the board battery? Cmos jumper could also be in the wrong position.

The ax8 version 1 may need bios number 11 for your venice cpu. Have any older athlon cpus to test with? I would email abit. Look for your board version. It may be on the board with white id letters. Only suggestion left.

I can't even get the switch to work to turn on the computer. Like I said, I've tried multiple cases. I've confirmed the case starter switch placement in both the manual and the online .PDF. It is indeed in the correct position.

Question

The green light, (LED1) is lit when there is recognition of power being supplied from the PSU, if I had a short, would that LED still be lit even if the short would stop an electric current going through?

Also, remember I have tried multiple power supplies.

I recently had a cpu fail. It was the last thing I expected. But it happens. If you need a new board, computer geeks has several in stock; not abit or asus, but lesser brands like foxconn.

what code is the LED POST reporter showing?

I don't know what other PSUs that you have tried but Antec 500W SmartPowers have a very high failure rate.

Is the RAM you are using known to be good? Does the board fire up the fans at all or is it completely dead?

well, if it's brand new & the LED POST reporter is showing absolutely nothing at all then imo that's a fault worthy of an exchange anyway.
