Just bought a abit be6-II board, and through all my old stuff in. It was giving me some trouble until I ran fdisk, cleared CMOS and reformated. Now I am having an IRQ conflict. Here is my IRQ assignments:

0 System timer
1 Keyboard
2 Programmable interrupt controller
3 Communications Port (COM2)
4 Communications Port (COM1)
5 Creative SB16 Emulation
6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller
7 Printer Port (LPT1)
8 System CMOS/real time clock
9 SCI IRQ used by ACPI bus
10 AsanteFAST 10/100 PCI Rev B Adapter
10 3dfx Voodoo3
10 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
11 Creative SB Live! Value
11 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
13 Numeric data processor
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
14 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

When I boot into win 98, there is a message saying SB emulation cannot load because "SB IRQ conflicts with PCI IRQ" I have attempted to shut off "ACPI function" in the bios because someone suggested that might solve my problem, but when I do it, it asks for the win98 cd to update new hardware. I put in the cd, but it acts as if my cd-rom is not there, as if I'm running in safe mode at like 300x400 resolution. Anyone have any ideas?

Any help would be appreciated.

p.s My setup is:
abit be6-II running bios behrv
p2-400 cpu
128 megs of pc-100 RAM (toshiba)
maxtor 10 gig HD
SB Live! value card
Voodoo 3 3000 pci card
Mitsumi unk speed cd-rom
Asantefast 10/100 network card
Windows 98

Marc4, do not disable ACPI. This problem has happened to just about everyone who has a BE6-II with an SB Live card, including myself. The system is trying to load the SB16 emulator which is used for sounds in DOS based games and apps. It almost always creates a conflict. Since most people don't need the emulator anyway, just REM it out of the autoexec.bat file in your windows directory.

This will take the line out of the boot sequence and the system won't install the SB16 emulator. My cousin and I have done this with our systems and everything works great.

It also makes a huge difference which cards are in which PCI slots. Try moving your cards around to different slots, especially that SB Live! card. In my system, I had to put the SB Live! in the 4th PCI slot.

I just go to device manager and disable SB emulation..frees up an IRQ that way

Just saw your post, as I am also having not only IRQ conflicts but disappearing DVD drive. All was well with Soundblaster in slot 4 and Hollywood Realmagic in slot 3. I have been trying to install an Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI adapter in both slots 2 and 3, and came up with both DOS driver conflict and no DVD drive in Win98SE. I tried installing just the MPEG card in slot 2 with the same results. I put the MPEG card back into slot 3, and the SCSI card in slot 1 and DVD drive is back and no IRQ conflicts. I understand the IRQ conflict issue, but do not understand the disappearing act of the DVD drive. Hard drive is on HPT366, DVD on IDE 2, Zip on IDE 1. The other weird thing I just noticed is that even though the DVD and Zip drives are on separate channels, they are listed in the BIOS detection as Secondary master and slave. One should be Primary and 1 secondary. I am curious if others have had the same problem with slots 2 and 3. Maybe, this is a defective board. Abit's BIOS update seems to address the IDE detection issue, but there's no mention of PCI conflicts with the IDE channels. I would like to hear from someone who's tried latest BIOS and seen the problem go away. Any response would be appreciated, as now I cannot use the 2 slots.
