Abit BH7 Shuts Down After A Few Seconds?

I'm helping a friend to install his new BH7 + P4 2.4GHz. After the computer is turned on, the fans start working, the drives hum, but the MB shuts the system down after a few seconds. I haven't seen this before, so I was wondering if anybody can help. I tested all other components (CPU, memory, etc) on a different MB and they all work fine. I just wanted to check if anyone has any ideas before I RMA the board.

Thanks a lot!

Could be shorting out in the case or a bad cpu fan. Ape Out.

The MB is out of the case, and the only things in it are the CPU, video card and a stick of memory. Since I have a Zalman cooler (which rarely spins up), I made sure there is a fan connected to the CPUFAN header. Still no go

What video card, is it one that has a secondary power connector, and if so... yeah. Got the secondary P4 power plug plugged into the mobo and all that?

Also, if you do have the case's power button plugged into the mobo's header, try unplugging it and using a screwdriver tip to trip the Power-On pins instead. If that cures the issue then maybe your case's power button is internally stuck in the "pressed" position, which the mobo would interpret as a signal to shut down.

I tried a few video cards (including a PCI one), and yes, the secondary power connector is plugged in. Since the MB is out of a case, I'm turning it on by touching a jumper to the POWER_ON pins. Anyway, I called Abit support this morning and they said to send it back, they'll send me a new one. The guy I talked to said that the CPUFAN speed sensor could be bad and the BIOS thinks there's no fan attached.

Thanks to all for the help!

Try to re-sit the heatsink.. maybe it's doesn't have a good contact and the termal protection thingy on the CPU is kicking in. Also.. check your CPU temperature on your bios.
