ABIT CLOSING doors for good..

Man that sucks. My first GOOD motherboard (NF7-S2) was an abit. I usually don't care much what happens to big companies, but this makes me rather sad.

I'd hoped the 2006 USI deal would breathe new life. They were starting to diversify, it seemed promising. Damn shame.

Cheers to some great builds abit..

Sad news. Abit had the best 440BX chipset based boards ever made. The were the true pioneer in BIOS based overclocking.

They weren't the pioneers, but helped popularize it. I saw QDI and Shuttle motherboards with some limited BIOS adjustments wayyyy back in the day with socket 7.

Mixed feelings here. First board I ever used for OCing was an AX-5, I loved and still have a working BH-6, but my last experience with them was a drawn out debacle involving an RMA in which the "replacement" they sent me was someone else's dysfunctional RMA, and once that was corrected, the replacement died inside of 6 months, so I said fsck it and replaced that board with another maker's product.

They went to hell in a handbasket... sad to see them go down, but I had already written them off personally for my mobo choices.

Ahhh the nf7-s2 I loved that board! Also had the bh-6 and have used several other abut boards over the years both in rugs for others and my own. I guess them jumping into the videocard market didn't help any.

Well, poo...

Abit had great boards. I wonder why the change. Looks like they want to focus on consumer electronics, I read. Granted, I can understand that. Sort of the way Apple has evolved from the Mac to the iEVERYTHINGOMGLOOK. I guess others are trying to jump on that bandwagon of portable connectivity and entertainment. It has nothing to do with volatile markets on the consumer end; we geeks still buy this stuff whether or not the world is burning down around us, lol. More like the resources themselves in the market costs are prohibitive to their profit margins and so they're dropping it. Again, it's too bad, they had great boards. I fondly remember feeling triumphant using an abit board, knowing that sucker was quality. Never had one go wrong on me.

Very best,

damn, I really liked Abit boards, especially my old KT7A-RAID/ T-bird 1.4@1.6ghz setup.
Just a pity Abit boards were always expensive and hard to get in Australia.

I still have one of those boards with a pair of 466's siting in a box somewhere in one of the spare rooms...it was a great setup for WinNT and Win2k.

hmmm maybe I should pull it out of retirement one day.

Isn't this actually good news in light of the nature of their products in more recent times? I've read some real horror stories about them in the last few years.

I liked them as well back in the day, but motherbpoards are a very critical component- not where you want inconsistency.
