Well IIRC the reason why its limited in FSB O'Cin is not because its mATX, but because it has Onboard Video. Correct me if im wrong but I've heard this same thing many times. Also, looks like an awesome MoBo otherwise, just wish they were downunder!!!

I don't think onboard video has much to do with the FSB limit but Gary would be better on telling us about that one.

I think that's a computer urban legend. Now, having IGP increases transistor count which can potentially inhibit clock speeds, however chipsets are always getting more complex and adding more features which naturally ups the transistor count, yet clock speeds are going up still.

I think it still comes back to chipset manufacturers positioning the IGP parts for low end stuff, and motherboard manufacturers not putting in the settings to let the boards overclock well. There are examples of IGP boards clocking fairly high. My Abit NF-M2 nView board with Geforce6150 chipset can run stable at 360MHz HTT and POST at 365MHz HTT, and I think I'm CPU limited because my Sempron has a locked multiplier and I'm already having to overvolt the bejezus out of it. I've heard of people running at the BIOS maximum of 400Mhz HTT on their NF-M2 nView boards - stable! Now, 400MHz HTT is pretty darn good for an AMD board of ANY chipset. I've also had Biostar Tforce boards using the Geforce6100 chipset that could overclock to the 330-335MHz HTT range, which is pretty respectable for an AMD board. This is with no boosting of chipset voltage or any special cooling besides perhaps a spare fan blowing down on the board.

wildunman took another close look at the bios regarding the memory issues and concludes that the board may have problems reading the SPD within the Rom correctly which would explain boot problems.
He modded the unofficial beta bios again so now DRAM Timings are being set to manual by default which should help decrease memory troubles.
Check it out @ http://wildgunman.gratis-server.de/index.html

This seemed to be what abit was getting at. They wouldn't tell me much but they said they had a new shipment of BIOS chips coming in as they feel this is a BIOS problem.

So they have a new BIOS update being planned? They gonna issue new chips to owners or are they jusy going to put them onto new mobos and let people with current mobos download the update? Jeesh...you'd think they'd tell us something other than vague errata.

Supposedly ABIT has a new BIOS coming out for this mobo. Wait for it before buying is my suggestion.

it's not officially released by abit - you'll notice that it isn't hosted on abit servers.
It's a beta so usual caveats apply.

Its a different BIOS than the previous ones thats for sure wether its Beta or not. But as I'm looking at the website it looks to me as if it is a official Universal ABIT website. If I'm wrong someone needs to change their site to reflect that.

the forum is provided by abit for it's user community but is not an official tech support site.
The forum rules say "All messages posted are the responsibility of the poster. They do not represent the views of ABIT Computer Corp."

"ABIT Computer Corp. and its representatives will not be held liable for the result of the usage of any information provided in the forum, and disclaim all liability resulting in the use of the posted information."

The specific beta BIOS thread has a disclaimer
DISCLAIMER:

& the link for the F-I90HD is http://www.lvcoyote.com/M612A_12.B01.zip - does that look like an official abit link?

Well thats good to know. Given the problems this mobo has had I would avoid using the BIOS then. It could be perfectly fine but till we know for sure what kills some of these mobos that have reportedly died its best to not use it.

Wow, so is this board any good for someone with an E4400 who wants to simply up the fsb to 300 to get 3.0GHz? Will that stress it out too much or is the stock north and south bridge cooling good enough to handle that?

Is it finnicky about memory or is it highly compatible with a wide variety of memory?

Also is the PCI-E x16 slot true x16 or only x8 electric?

If all you want is 300MHz FSB, there are some other mATX boards that will do that. I don't know about memory compatibility, but the PCI-E slot should be 16x.
