I don't really think this had a whole lot to do with the abit products or quality (though I never was a fan of abit boards anyway), I think the issues stem from fraud and theft at the highest levels of the company.... kind of like the Enron of mobo companies. Once the 'irregularities' were uncovered and things started going south, nobody would trust them to do business with (too much of a risk of BK), and sales went....

The BX6 was my last Abit product. I built a system for someone using the BH6, and the hell it caused me drove me away from Abit. RIP.

All of us IC7-G owners should band together and hold some sort of candle light vigil. Fantastic board, runs everything I'd ever need, I plan on running it into the damn ground before giving it up.

This sad news brings a tear to my eye.

i had 4 of those hehe.. great boards fast for gaming back then

Somewhere in this mess of an office, I still have a functioning Abit IT5H - wicked Pentium overclocker's board, WAAAAY back in the day!

Had more ABIT boards than I could count. Never had any problems with any of them.

Tried an ASRock recently, which is an ASUS budget line - big mistake.

Sucks. They were the shiznits all the way up to the Socket A days. They just totally dropped the ball with the a64's. They didn't have the big name like Asus or MSI and they lost a lot of the enthusiasts with unstable boards and bloat.

I still think they have the best damn bios menu.

Wow, that's absolutely mindblowing. They were great because they were a low budget company that gained such a huge following (due to their OCing capabilities) that they became mainstream... and now this?

BX-6 rev2 FTW.
I can't remember the name of the dual s370 board they had. I had one of them and it was great telling people I had a dual celeron machine.

They've never been worth a damn, except for overclocking options. Stability was never their strong suit. I always happily paid the premium for Asus quality.

they lost their overclocking options when their designer left and went to dfi. ever since then... plunge to the ground.

Asus went mainstream with contracts in OEM's. ABit stayed marketing to computer geeks. Probably why.

It will be sad news if they can't get their financial troubles straightened out. I've owned 5 Abit boards over the years - BX6, BP6, SE6, BD7 and a KV8. The first 4 are all still working today. I had great experiences with the BX6 and the BP6. The SE6 and the BD7 were fairly solid but unexciting products. The KV8 was complete garbage unfortunately. It never worked quite right (unstable, even with 3 different PS). I ended up giving it away for free to a friend who had all the parts to build a system except CPU and MB. He bought an A64 and ended up building a pretty nice rig around it. Of course, it would still crash randomly on him from time to time and the board finally gave up the ghost 3-4 months later. He RMA-ed through me and got another KV8, which died on him after another 3 months or so. At that point, he just went out and got an Asus board and ended up having no further problems. Either ABIT's QC has been slipping or their decision to go with a lot of VIA chipsets is hurting their boards.
