Are you guys all using "speed fan" to monitor your temps????

Thanks for any input...

I'm getting a second hard drive for my OS and drivers only, and anything I won't mind having to re-install should I need to format again in the future. But first, time to transfer everything to external HDD, which is going to take forever.

My old motherboard was a 965P-DS3... from what I have read... P965 and P35 are VERY similar. Essentially that P35 is just an upgraded P965. It's not like I'm going from AM2 to P35.

you were right in your original assumption, that a harddrive and OS install has nothing to do with the type of errors you're getting. from your description, you could be getting these boot failures without any harddrives attached.

i would definitely RMA the board, but I wouldn't give up on the IP35, I think we're all very happy with it.

I thought Speedfan doesn't report the proper core temp and you have to add +15C to the CoreCPU readout?

Also, does anyone know 100% which apps will report the correct temp without this +15C nonsense?

Coretemp, TAT, Bios, Speedfan.. ?

Correct...speedfan shows the traditional average CPU temp. S&M displays the core temp. Coretemp 0.95 is also accurate with my E4300 (100C Tjunction). CPU should be okay as long as the max load temp is 20-25C UNDER Tjunction temp.

I'm actually going to try that...

And a question: how do I boot off an IDE-CDROM... I see SATA-CDROM as a boot device in the bios but no option for IDE-CDROM?

Yea, i was confused by this too but it works fine. The jmicron IDE controller looks like SATA to that 'side' of the abit bios. just set things up logically and it will work the way you think it will.

i believe the only caveat is you have to make sure the jmicron is enabled and set for IDE (this is the default setting).

Well, I tried booting without a hard drive, and my results were..

1st boot attempt - successful (ok, but it's random)
2nd boot attempt - successful (hey, maybe it really was the hard drive)
3rd boot attempt - FAIL (well, now I know for sure at least)

I actually noticed in the BIOS my IDE CDROM was actually went by name near the bottom, something like TESCORP DVD/DVDRW or something along those lines. So I figured it out but given that it doesn't look like it's the hard drive I'm not going to reformat right now. I still have my old DS3 laying around which I can use while this is out.

yea, the idea here is that with no floppy and no HD's, you should always get 100% successful boots where it gets to the ERROR NO SYSTEM DISK or something to that effect.

If the MB is inside a case, then take it out and retest. Be sure to strip the board clean to eliminate any other variable. If you still cannot access the BIOS without a HDD (hit DELETE key), then you may have a defective MB.

To make things even better, I decided to try a format and re-install. Well the format went fine, but when setup attempts to copy files it fails copying certain files during the installation. I have never, ever had this happen before even though I've reformatted many times. I don't know why it just randomly started doing this... The CD looks perfectly fine... the DVD drive seems to be working fine.

Edit: Stalls when trying to install devices. I'm done with this board.

i still think you need to RMA

Sounds like you have a problem with the DVD drive and/or installation CD. Again, not sure why you don't want to take the MB out and check the problem. You'll need to remove it anyway to return the board.

I've seen posts about 1GB x 4 with this board. I've tested 1GB x 2 DDR2 800 Kingston "N5" ValueRAM and 1GB x 2 DDR2 667 HP/Crucial rams (stuff on sale for $16/GB). PC can boot into windows. System is Orthos/S&M stable. WXP Pro SP1 32-bit will only detect 3.2GB.

I moved the e4300 over to my old DS3 in another case. Used the same DVD writer and the OS installed fine. I don't know why, but maybe the IP35-E just did not like my the arrangement of parts I had, or maybe it was just half DOA. Either way I am done with it, and it's going to be RMA tomorrow.

Hopefully all you that get an IP35-E do not run into any of the issues that I ran into because it was seriously annoying.

Hi All,
Got my IP35-E yesterday(which the fedex driver left in its cardboard box in the rain..).
Got a question to all you gurus here: Regarding the power connection next to the PCI-E slot - do i need to power this one up? does this replace the video card's own power connector ? should i connect them both? (got a 7900gs with its own dedicated power plug)

no, it's there to bolster the PCI-E Bus if necessary but i can't imagine too many scenarios where it would actually be used.
Just connect the main ATXPWR & the ATX12V1 (& of course your 7900's own).

i asked that too. found out it doesn't hurt to have it plugged in or not. i guess it depends on if your card needs extra power. i would still plug in your video card power plug though. for as long as i know, all video cards that have a external power plug must have it plugged in.

Hows everyone doing? So for those have know my story my e6550 wouldnt go beyond 452. So I got bored and decided to go to 454 on stock volts for the heck of it and what you know it boots. Only problem is that when I try to run small FTTs test on it, it gives me a stress error so I figured what the hey might be volts. I go into bios and up vcore to 1.39, 2 bumps to NB, and glt vtt to like 1.23. I try the test again and this time it just hard freezes my comp. Anyone with a suggestion on this?

Use Memtest86 to check for RAM stability. If okay, then you may have already hit the FSB wall of your chip. MB can easily hit 480MHz with just a small bump in NB and SB voltage.

Okay, guys . . . I didn't want to start another one of those "hey check my shopping list" threads so I'll run this up the flagpole here since it's all going on the board we're talking about.

I bought the IP35-E and it's on the way.

In a waiting shopping cart at Newegg I have the following:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail
(retail means it comes with a fan, right? I can upgrade that later)

Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

EVGA 320-P2-N811-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Please tell me if that looks good. I'm not married to any of that stuff.
I chose that hard drive based on numerous recommendations here. That's at least twice the room I need but the smaller ones don't seem to have the perpendicular thing going. The memory was the cheapest with one of the lowest latencies so that's why I chose that. The video card is another recommendation . . . probably more than I need with a 19 inch montior and BF2 being my main use for it . . . I can easily back that down to an X1950 and save a hundred bucks . . . maybe even back it down to7600gt?

Thanks much and remember . . . your answers help everyone !!!

>>> PS >>>

I just noticed these new video cards don't have the old analog connector. I'm assuming I can just use one of those $5 adapters and be okay? I eventually plan on getting a flat panel.

I'd avoid any C2D CPU with 8x multi. Go with E4x00 and put the $ saved in the bank. Wait next year for Peryn price to come down before re-engaging. There's virtually no performance difference between E4x00 and E6750 at the same core speed. I would also avoid any DDR2 RAM with nominal 2.0-2.1V rating...big waste of $. Any high quality 1.8V DDR2 800 RAM will do the job. My favorite RAM for this board is the "N5" series of Kingston ValueRAM.

I'll look into what you're saying about the processor . . . are you assuming an hard overclock on the E4x00 series processor? I'm a newbie when it comes to overclocking.

As for the ram . . . does what you are saying hold true at HALF the price? There is a huge rebate on the Patriot ram I listed above. It's $63 for 2 gigs.

Thanks again.

It's a good value if you already have some 1.8V DDR2 available to boot from. The Patriot is rated at 2.0-2.1V. Therefore, it may not boot with the 1.8Vdimm default in BIOS.

50% of E4x00 should be able to hit 3.2GHz. Anything north of 3.0GHz is blazing fast. It's very easy to overclock 9x multi CPU with this MB. Set proper Vdimm and memory timing, bump Vcore to 1.445, lock-in memory divider to 1:1 and crank up the FSB. You should be able to start out at 300MHz FSB.
