CPUZ says version 6.

Time to learn how to flash BIOS?

My question is this: 11 or 12?

Any safe way to flash BIOS without a floppy?

11 BIOS is excellent. No need to flash BIOS, yet. List all your components and follow my guide at the bottom of my 1st POST.

Need to clear CMOS. Go into BIOS and load optimized default. Save and exit BIOS.

Thanks to DAC21 for providing those! If that open box BT for $18 comes up on Newegg, I'll be all over it. Do they ship it with any thermal paste? If the open box doesn't pop up, it's the Freezer 7 Pro for me!

BT open box may not come with paste.

After a little research I found that the MX-1 paste that comes pre-applied on the Freezer 7 Pro is actually very good. One European web site that I found last night tested about 6 differents pastes, MX-1 and AS5 included. MX-1 bested AS5 by 1c , not really relevent other than why make a mess of taking off the MX-1 to hopefully properly apply AS5.

Don't lose sleep over CPU grease. Use a CC card to spread a thin layer on heat spreader and base of CPU cooler. Make sure the surfaces are clean before applying paste. Isopropyl alcohol works well.

Hello again.

Thanks to SerpentRoyal,i have managed to build 2 pc's with this excellent motherboard and Intel's DualCore E2160 processor oced to 3ghz.

In my new build i cant seem to remain stable at the 300mhz fsb setting, the system is stable up to 267mhz FSB, 2.4ghz with default voltage. The system is composed as such... Abit IP35 v12 Bios, E2160 Processor, 2 sticks of Kingston Valueram KVR800D2N5, 3 HDD's , a 6600 vga, a DVDRW drive, all connected to a Seasonic S12 380W PSU which unfortunately is not equipped with a EPS12V (8P) molex but with a ATX12V (4P) one. is it somehow connected to the aforementioned problem?.

Thanks.

Re-flash to 12 BIOS. Reset CMOS. Reboot and load Optimized default in BIOS. Save and exit. Now go back to BIOS and set Vcore to 1.465, 300 MHz FSB, 1:1 memory divider, 1.90Vdimm, and 5-5-5-18 timing.

Define unstable. Did you run memtest86 to check RAM? BIOS will natively set memory divider @ 1:2 to yield 400MHz RAM speed. If you bump FSB to 267MHz without lowering memory divider to 1:1, then the RAM will run at 267 x 2 or 534MHz.

Once you have achieved a stable overclock, then your can use 1:1.20 or 1:1.25 memory divider to overclock the RAM. It appears that your RAM is okay up to about 500MHz.

See the bottom of my 1st post for instruction. Also check out the link below. Look for 1:1 memory divider in CPUz (FSB speed = RAM speed). DO NOT OVERCLOCK THE RAM until you have a stable overclock. I'm currently running the same memory at 485MHz with 2.0Vdimm/5-4-4-11-2T.

Did they get the double boot issue fixed with this board. Can't deceide between this board and a Gigabyte offering. Is the durable component thing on Gigabyte just a marketing thing or are they that much better for stability?

Serpent,thanks for support!.

Unstable is defined as the system posts, but either boots into Windows and fails Orthos Blend in approximately 1 min or simply resets itself.

BIOS 13 fixed double post. All marketing. 100% solid/electrolytic caps on IP35-E should last at least 5 years under normal use. I still have several boards with 100% Japanese electrolytic caps. Still humming after seven years. Course 600MHz PIII is probably too slow to transcode a modern DVD movie.

You're probably running the RAM north of 500MHz. See my previous post. Use 1:1 memory divider. CPU should break 340MHz FSB with 1.465Vcore.

Post a screen shot of CPUz similar to my link above.

Still i can't seem to break the 300 FSB barrier with a stable system, i have only achieved 310 with 1:1 which seems stable with Orthos Blend at 10 mins test time, anything above that is unstable. Thanks again for all the help, i will continue my testings and findings...

Did you reflashed 12 BIOS and load optimized default? Do it again and set Vcore to 1.465, Vdimm to 2.0, timing to 5-5-5-18-2T, memory divider to 1:1. DO NOT change any other variable in BIOS. Set FSB at 310 and run memtest86 test#5 for 50 loops to check RAM.

Check CPU and PWM temp via AbitEQ while Priming. Post a screen shot of AbitEQ and CPUz.

Could be a bum chip, CPU overheat issue, or ground issue with the MB. See if you can overclock the other rig. Worst result for E2160 @ stock voltage is 3.0GHz.

I'm looking at the IP35-E/Q6600 and some Crucial Ballistix 6400 which are spec'd for 4-4-4-12 @2.2v. I know these are supposed to be good sticks, but I'm still concerened that they need 2.2v to run at the specified timings. Is there any downside to running ram at such a high voltage? When and If I do overclock, it will me very moderate.

Thanks!

Check over on the CPU / Overclocking forum for the E2XXX and E4XXX overclocking thread. Just fired up my Abit IP35-E + E4500 for the first time on Sat. Just hit 3.4 Ghz stable on Orthos last night. 330/340 FSB with this board is chump change. figure on 460 +

Good 1.8V DDR2 800 will be able to run at 4-4-4-12-2T. You may have issue booting at default 1.8V. I personally prefer to stick with high-quality 1.8V DDR2 667 or 800 RAMs.

If you don't plan to overclock your RAM to the bleeding edge, then it's best to stick with 1.8V modules.

Does this board have any issues if it were to use a SATA DVD-RW and SATA Hard Drive, or does it just have issues with RAID?

50% of the E4xx0 should be able to hit 3.2GHz. Board can easily hit 500MHz FSB but your CPU and RAM may be the bottlenecks.

I've seen occasional reports of SATA issues with Raptor drives. IP35-E doesn't incorporate RAID. You'll need to get a RAID card.

True the Abit IP35-E doesn't support RAID but it's big brother does. IP35-Pro

I'm just curious about it because if their are no issues with the IP35-E then their shouldn't be any with the IP35-Pro.

So let's narrow this down abit more.
Would their be any issues with this hard drive and DVD-RW on the IP35-E.

I have a raptor 74g har drive and Liteon SATA dvd burner. Works fine
