Hi - is the best option to use the Flash Menu with the Abit software via One Click Live Update to get the best/most stable Bios?
Thats what I did - was not sure if thats the best way to keep up to date.
note: i dont overclock
Thanks

Little did I know I had it on an untested OC setting the night before the flash. I got it to win xp, ran the flasher. And oh lord, right after it says finishing wiping the ROM and installing new BIOS, just at the 25% point of the install, it stopped, the machine just went frozen. I was freaking out, cause I really hate to RMA the board and wait a week before putting that machine back again. So I try booting it ... no luck, then just before I gave up I thought of reseting the BIOS. Then I was waiting for the reboot to come ... It was just time ticking away, after a long 10 seconds the fan came on for like 2 second then it died again, at that point I thought it was gone, so was reaching for the PSU off button so I can take it apart for RMA, just at that nick of time it came back on and not only that booted all the way, I quickly pressed DEL to get into BIOS and turn on default settings. THen it actually let me get into WIndows. I was so afraid to turn it off again fearing it might just not come back. I crossed my fingers and tried another flash to 14. THis time it went all the way w/o problem. I then tried a reboot and put on the last known good OC setting, it was absolutely no problem, ran ortho/mem86 for couple hours, completely cool.
This is gotta be the closest I came to trashing a board. Haven't had a closer call.

Hey guys, I think i have a slight problem. Just set up my new system:
E2160 M0 + thermalright ultra-120 extreme
IP35-E Bios version 12
2x1Gb Crucial Ballistix ddr 800
Radeon hd 2600XT
Corsair 520
Now I'm trying to overclock this baby, but it seems that I'm hitting the wall at the pretty low frequency 322 x 9 is the last i can boot to. Orthos reports error after few minutes, Down at 317 x 9 I can run Orthos for about 6 minutes. At 325 x 9 won't even boot to bios!
Here is what ive been trying:
Set the ddr speed to 1:1, voltage to 2.0 or 2.1.
Set the vcore to 1.465
even increased nb and sb voltage up a notch,
changed the dimm slots from 2,4 to 1,3
Temps are awesome in bios or in core temp. Idling at 22 load up to 42 C
My case has excellent air flow, 6 fans 2 fron intake two side intake 1 rear exhaust 1 120mm top exhaust fan!!! system temps are from 21-27C.
I was hoping to get this baby at least up to 333 x 9 if not further up.
What am I doing wrong here?!
Please someone help me!
Thank you in advance guys.

So Serpent and Hokiealumnus, now that the 35-E is discontinued what is our next best bang for the buck board?
I bought an E way back but I am now looking for the next board for a new build, possibly Penryn.
I saw that bios 14 v5 is having some negative feedback and no update on your first page, serpent, what bios are you running?

I have it set at 4-4-4-12-2T at 2.2 vdimm stock 400 Mhz. With 4 x 1 gb sticks (2 matched sets) installed it would not pass Memtest86 at these settings. On the first pass a red screen of errors in test 5. I checked each set individually in both slots 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 at these settings with no errors after 5 passes, then looped it through test 5 and test 8 for 1 hour, no errors. So the ram appears to be ok. With 4 sticks in at settings of 5-5-5-15-2T I get no errors. Could it be the memory controller on this board can't handle 4 sticks at 4-4-4-12-2T? Anyone else using 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 able to run 4-4-4-12-2T on this board? When I get the time and with the new video card I'll try bumping up the NB voltage a notch or two and see if that helps. I don't want to go any higher than 2.2 vdimm.

Also, is there a link on instructions to flash from DOS?
Lastly - I was reading on Abit Forums it seems like Version 14 beta 04 is now a stable BIOS - based on what someone posted.
Thanks
@ MadSci... I'm just starting my RAM OCing now and will let you know in a few days. Will be going thru all the dividers testing both 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15. I have 4 slots populated with Ballistix also (2x1gb + 2x512 PC2-6400) and am not planning on using more than 2.2v max at any test.Originally posted by: MadScientist

It doesn't need BIOS upgrades but that doesn't mean that it can't be improved with BIOS upgrades.Originally posted by: JackMDS
No normal board that does Not have a defective design needs ?almost daily? upgrade of BIOS.
90% of mobo shipments have IGP - by your thinking as they can't sell to 90% of the market then boards without IGP shouldn't be made?I posted this on this thread on Oct.30.
My assumption is that the IP-35E was on rebate forever (on NewEgg, and one other vendor) because Abit can Not sell to the non-enthusiasts a Mobo that Resets at Boot. When these Mobos are gone they probably has V2 waiting and it would go for $90.
I guess I was wrong they even gave up on a version 2.

Try upping NB by one or two notches. The latest Crucial Bs can be hit or miss since there is no guarantee that you will get D9 ICs. Course all the noobs are still flocking to these RAMs cause of past overclocking history.
Quality Kingston N5 1.8V DDR2 667 can hit 400MHz/4-4-4-12-2T with only 1.95Vdimm. My N5 1.8V DDR2 800 is good up to about 480MHz/4-4-4-12-2T with 2.1Vdimm.

My question was can this board run 4 x 1 GB ram stable, specifically, Crucial Ballistix PC6400, at 4-4-4-12-2T. I know after testing that it can run both pairs (2 x 1 Gb) of my ram individually stable at these settings, actually 1T, but not together (all 4 slots populated). Could be the ram, or it could be the memory controller. I did state that I will try upping the NB voltage a bit. I'll post back with the results.
Brencat,
Thanks for the reply. Yours is not the same config as mine, 1 GB less, but it may answer my question.

@MadSci - Forgot to ask what Bios are you running? I'm on 14 Beta 05. Reason I ask is that this beta still does the double-post whenever you change RAM timings or divider, but doesn't double-post when changing anything else. This probably means Abit has manipulated the strap settings to fix double-post -- I don't know, frankly I don't have the technical knowledge here. But I wonder if this fix could also impact timings when all 4 slots are filled. Anyway, just speculation right now. If I start having probs testing at 4-4-4-12, I may go back to Bios 12 and redo the tests.Originally posted by: MadScientist
