DDR2 800 RAM that is not in full compliance with JEDEC's 1.8V DDR2 800. The RAM may require more than 1.8V too boot properly at DDR2 800.

Try 12 BIOS. I don't use that function.

Got a pic on the surgery required? how much material did you have to remove?

I'm using a Big Typhoon. Therefore, no pic of the mod. A small 40mm fan would work well. No drilling required. Twist the lock-wire to secure the fan to the NB. Fan should be blowing down into the heat sink. You should remove the Abit logo at the top for better cooling.

You can find a used floppy at a local PC store for less than $5. It's one of those must-have hardware if you're serious about PC computing.

I use the Big Typhoon. This item is often on sale at NewEgg for $18 (open box). You need to trim the Freezer to fit.

Yep have one installed, Just have never had a problem in 20 years of flashing until Friday. Ive done it within windows without issue before as well. Never again. Will be doing it off floppy and Dos prompt from now on.

Pulled the trigger on the Mwave IP35E special, a C2D E4400, 2 x 1 Crucial B and AC Freezer7, is the Freezer7 going to fit, or need trimming?

Freezer7 is not a perfect fit. But if you bend the thin AL layer of the Freezer7 on top of the NB it will fit OK. Be sure to set the pins securely. That's what I did.

Others just trim the excess AL layer which I do not think is too elegant.

I was a little surprised it did not fit perfectly.

Probably need to trim the fan.

First things first. Thanks to SerpentRoyal for his initial review and ongoing dedication to this thread. I'm looking at the IP35-E as a replacement for my Rev. 1.03 Asus P5B which seems to have a problem going past ~420 FSB.

Anyway, two questions. How high FSB can the IP35-E reliably hit and does ClockGen or any of the other software overclocking tools work with this board. Thanks!

I have had my ip35-e up to 480fsb and setfsb works on this board. I thk i could go alot higher but seems like my e6600 has issues with 6x and 7x muti i can only use 8x and 9x for every day use i run my fsb@450x8 when i get a faster fan for the tuniq i will run it at 465x8 or 470x8.

Rock on Conlan...I've got 3.0Ghz stable with just one jump of Vcore (.02) on my E4400; please let me know what you get with the AC7...I need an aftermarket cooler and it's nice and inexpensive. If possible, link to a photo of what you have to do to get the AC7 to fit (or if anyone else has one, please link.)

My Tjunction temps hover JUST below 70 under Orthos load at 3.0. Since I'm still on stock cooling, dropped it back to 270fsb, 10x & 1:1.66 (to keep my 900Mhz RAM speed), which gave me back about three degrees C, just to be completely safe ...let us know your results!

See my previous posts for exact settings to get up to that if you'd like.

FYI, in a small bit of good news, got my RAM to do 5-5-4-15-2T @ 2.00v Vdimm (2.05 setting in BIOS), so a slight improvement. It would boot to windows with 4-5-4-15-2T but wasn't Orthos stable...will try upping Vdimm later to see if that helps.

Why not get the TX2 which goes for $1.99 after rebate. It's a great cooler, particularly at that price.

dont know if this has been asked and answered already or not. I just set up my Q6600 + ultra 120 extreme lapped rig. As of right now, I am running at stock speed but I want to OC.
I have never OC ed before so I need some help.

I want to OC to about 3.2 GHz.
What is the safest way possible to do that? Im not sure if I want to keep C1E/EIST enabled or not.
Also I have Crucial Ballistix 800 4-4-4-12 RAM. CPU-Z says it's 5-5-5-18. What gives?
But before I do anything, I'd like to flash the bios to the latest version but I dont have a floppy drive. Is it possible to make a bootable CD-ROM or USB drive and boot off that? How do I go about doing that?

Mine is good up to 488MHz FSB (limit of my E6320). Others are stable up to 500MHz. You probably don't need to go above 490MHz unless you have a fantastic chip with 7x multi.

I would recommend that you change all settings in BIOS. The board is not picky. You don't need to creep up to the maximum FSB like some boards. Clear CMOS. Dial-in the proper parameters and board will boot.

In general keep all defaut settings in BIOS if you're going to run under 430-450MHz FSB. Only modify Vcore, Vdimm, memory divider, and memory timing.

After reading through this entire thread, I decided to order the order the Abit IP35-E. It should arrive on Thursday...

Abit IP35-E
Q6600
Tuniq Tower
4X1GB Trascend DDR2 800Mhz @ 1.8v 4-4-4-12
Antec P180B (Case)
Antex TPQ 850 WATT PSU
BFG OC2 8800GTS-640MB
SATA RAPTOR 74GB
IDE DVD Writer

Anything I should worry about? Unfortunately, this thread only had a few people use a Q6600 and I think all of them were struggling! Yikes!

I don't expect any problems, pretty certain whether I get a B3 or a G0 that I should hit 3Ghz without worry, 3.2Ghz likely and anything more is icing on the cake... Plan is run to 333X9, if that works, then 400X8... Any need to increase the NB/SB voltage?

And hats off to SerpentRoyal for a wonderful thread with great information!

11 BIOS is very good. No need to change at this time. RESET BIOS.

1. Vcore...1.36
2. Vdimm...2.0 with 5-5-5-15 timing (you can drop timing later)
3. 9x multi
4. 1:1 memory divider
5. 330MHz FSB

DO NOT MODIFY C1E and EIST. Boot to windows. If okay, then raise FSB my 5MHz and reboot. Repeat until you hit 3.2GHz core speed. Run Orthos Large mode for 10 minutes (load all 4 cores). Run Memtest86 test #5 for 50 loops. If okay, then you can drop Vdimm, timing, and Vcore. Retest for stability.

BIOS will auto load the default timing at 5-5-5-18 with 1.8Vdimm to boot RAM.

I've seen a few with Q6600 north of 3.4GHz. One was able to run 1M SP in windows at 4.0GHz on air (Q6600). Newbies tend to buy OCZ RAMs, which don't usually boot without manually setting Vdimm in BIOS to 2.0-2.2V.

I use high quality JEDEC RAMs from Crucial or Kingston. No problem overclocking with four sticks. Connect only two sticks and test for maximum core speed. Once you have an idea of what the CPU can do, then run with four modules. Note that window 32-bit will only detect up to 3.2GB.

You may have issue with some Antec PSUs. The new Antec 380/430/500 Earthwatts are okay. They are built by Seasonic to Antec's specs. Main primary filter cap is Nippon Chemicon. Quiet and cool-running PSU. I have the 500.

ok finally finished building my computer and now have gone and started all my testing/etc.

i have this board, q6600+thermaltake-v1, ocz 2gb 800, & 7900gs.

i had problems with ocz rev 2 ram with this board but it's completely stable now. i use 5-5-5-15-42 timings with ddr2 volts to 2.10v. ran memtest for around 10+ hours and is completely stable. *sigh* what a relief!

ok. then tried to oc my quad and had problems many times. but i believe i found a stable speed @ 357 mhz, 9xmulti, 1:1, vcore 1.33, ich 1.55v, mch 1.41v. ran orthos for almost 3 hours with no errors.

http://tinypic.com/fullsize.php?pic=9bc7k6&s=2

ok my question is from the pic... which temperature readings is the correct one (core temp or speedfan?) and if the temp readings are correct in CT being in 70C area with full load is that pretty bad (as in is the temps too high)? What is the max temp I should avoid (so i don't have a roasted cpu chip that is)? thanks.

i think so far so good and all of this came by b/c of this wonderful thread and of course serpents awesome advices.

I just gave up a GA-P35C-DS3R, for this and THIS is much better.

I'm inclined to believe you as my DS3R just bit the dust! I've had it for one week....bios chip is bad apparently and this is a known issue in various forums including this one, no post (I get beep though), no video, no way to stop it restarting every few seconds, cmos reset, battery pull, reseating and bare components...nothing..sending it back and buying the NON E version of this ABIT board...

Sorry if I missed it, but what is the difference between the PRO and NON-PRO version? (not interested in E version cause I need more than 4 sata ports....)

Thanks guys.

Anyone use S&M 1.9 and know how to read the monitoring? It looks like the bottom row temperature readings are the accurate ones (it matches Coretemp) but is that for only 1 core? The other rows above it show temps substantially cooler - too much of a difference for it to be the other core.

thanks Serpent. it still dual boots on a cold start - so I must not have 11 Bios, right? How do I find out what version BIOS I have?
