@ReikerStruvian: there's only the single IDE channel on that board's JMicron controller.
It's never a good idea to combine both optical drive and hard drive on one IDE channel.
My advice would be to replace the IDE hard drive with a SATA hard drive.
Put the IDE hard drive in an external USB enclosure and use for backup storage.
When installing Windows, you'll need the F6 floppy drivers for the JMicron controller.

I made a floppy the way I had posted and unzipped the #12 to a folder and copied it to the floppy. asks me 3 times to press a key if I agree then starts to flash, ask me to input a name of a file and there is no way to do that, then crashes it shows #12 bin file trying to flash as it crashes

I have not yet sent in for the $20 rebate and can try zipzoomfly or abit tomorrow by phone.
Any suggestions what to do next? or which of the 2 to contact?

Ouch. Never flash an unstable system. From your post, it seems you can get to a DOS prompt, is that correct? If so, download the official v.12 BIOS that comes with all the files.

Unzip all the files to your floppy. Edit abitfae.bat's command to include the /wb switch. Boot to your DOS prompt and simply type "runme" and hit enter. Hopefully it will flash for you. If not, it sounds likely you killed your chip.

You can get a new BIOS chip from abit. Thankfully, they include removable BIOS chips instead of the hard-wired ones on other manufacturer's boards. Once you get it, simply pop the old one out, noting its orientation and install the new one.

wht you see above is in the file.

downloaded the disk creator you suggested in your post and opened it in a blank floppy, then unzipped the #12 from the site you posted and entered all the files into the floppy. and it asks 3 times questions and if yes press a key I press it 3 times and now it asks me for a file name while showing the #12 one.bat in the winow then after 10 seconds shuts down

so where do I enter what in that abitfae.bat file.?

I did press runme 3 times with #12 then tried it by substituting #12....bat with 14.....bat hoping to restore #14 it did not like # 14 with the files for # 12 and I only was able to download the #14....bat without the other zipped files which again may need your suggested command.

It could be that the power supply is not compatible with the system Antec Blue 480 Watts. Maybe it makes it crash.

I will have the new case tomorrow and can transfer the board into it with a Antec Earthware 500 wat power supply.

so help me with what you can to edit the file you said to edit and re paste the file the way you feel it should read.

Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a good idea. I will go about doing that, but for now I just want to know if it is possible for me to at least run the harddrive without the dvd. And if so, how can I do that?

I'm wondering since some guy on the support forum for the ip35-E was able to get an ide dvd and an ide harddisk to work on the motherboard...So there must obviously be a way.

The harddrive already has an XP operating system on it.

Update:
My bios ID is 11 and I don't have any 'JMicron IDE enable' under Int. Periph>Onboard PCI>Storage Controller

Whats going on ?

I had the same thing happen to me. I was using the Windows utility and it froze at92%. Then the mobo would only boot into the rescue Bios which only allowed the floppy drive to run.
I went to Bootdisk.com and grabbed the bootdisk for BIOS flashing, threw the .14 BIOS on there plus AWDFLASH from my ABIT CD.

I used a Windows 98 Boot Disk to get into DOS, then swapped the disks and ran AWDFLASH and flashed the new BIOS. System saved.

Good Luck.

Any particular reason 12 BIOS is recommended?

bios 14 beta 5 seems be my best and overclocks best. If i didn't have the other 2 gigs of adata in my pc i could run 463x8 but right now i run 410x9 so i can use 4 gigs in vista 64bit. Helps when im using vmware linux to fold gota keep my 9-10min % going.

TungFree,
Make sure the runme.bat batch file is edited for the correct bios .bin file... the batch file has the name of the .bin file in it, and if you are trying to update to v12 and the batch file is for another Bios version, the .bin file won't match and it won't update...

@echo off

call abitfae.bat M630A_14.BIN

This is not related to the dual boot issue. I was running the v 12 BIOS, updated to the 14 a couple of days ago to see if the BIOS was any kind of issue, and no change...

I am going to pull it out of the case tomorrow, and remove all drives, sound card and use only 1 stick of RAM to see if it will post. If not, I will try another PSU, but this has me scratching my head...

System details:

E6750 No O/C
4GB Crucial Ballistix 800 RAM (4x1) tried going back to the original 2GB no change
Audigy 2
WD 74 GB Raptor
Seagate 400 GB drive
Seasonic 600 Watt PSU
EVGA 7900 GT OC

Have you raised the Vdimm of your RAMs and tested with Memtest86? Do you have an as-loaded image file of the OS to restore to eliminate software issue?

Take the board outside the case and put it on the shipping box. Strip it bare. Now install CPU, GPU, mouse, keyboard, and one stick of RAM. Pull battery and clear CMOS for 1/2 hour. If you cannot POST, then try various RAM slots and also with the other stick of RAM. CPU rarely go bad. Try another GPU before replacing PSU.

I have the memory at 2.1v and no difference. When I first power the pc on, all the fans power up and so do the drives... it just doesn't post. I have been running the system fine for more than a month, and haven't had any issues until the last week or so... I powered it up tonight, and everything was powered up, and it ran like that for about 15 minutes and it finally posted and started up after that.

I didn't get a chance to work with today as I had hoped, maybe tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions?

My Abit IP35-E is coming, but I want to make sure I have it ready to go when it's here.

I'd like to know how do I flash the BIOS on this Abit board? Can it be flashed in WindowsXP using Abit's FlashMenu? I've always had successful and hassel free BIOS update this way. Or does it have to be flashed by booting in floppy?

Also what's the recommended BIOS to have? Bios 14 Beta 5?

I have an IP35-E motherboard and under Integrated Peripherals->OnBoard PCI Device, the options for the IEEE 1394 Controller and the IDE Controller do not show, only the Network Controller and Invoke Boot Agent settings do.

Is my bios corrupted? I tried clearing cmos by changing the mobo jumper to clear for 10 minutes just to make sure I was working with how the mobo came.

You could install windows but an update caused PC to crash? Which OS? DO NOT update windows until you get a chance to test for system stability. I'm still using windblow XP SP1 with no additional patches.

DO NOT UPDATE BIOS WITH AN UNSTABLE COPY OF WINDOWS!!! I suspect the BIOS chip may be toast. RMA the board.

You're suppose to rename 14 BIOS to 12 BIOS prior to flashing.

Corsair 2GB DDR2
PNY GeForce 8600GT
Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Gamer
Seagate Barricuda 200GB 7200
Samsung CD-RW/DVD SM-308

At the moment, I am trying to set up the boot order in bios but my DVD or harddisk are not being detected in bios (they are both IDE). I have the optical drive set to master on the jumper with the master part of the IDE connector and the harddisk is set to cable select (only lets me choose master on/slave off, cable select, limit to 32GB).

I've tried disconnecting the optical IDE and setting the jumper to master on the harddisk and plugging in the master IDE connector to it, but it still doesn't show up in bios. And when I go to load windows, it says 'boot disk failure, please insert system disk'.

Out of ideas

Zero fill the old HDD before use.

Connect HDD as Master (end of IDE cable) and optical drive as Slave. Pull PSU from wall. Remove battery. Clear CMOS. Let sit 1/2 hour before reconnecting battery and CMOS.

Start PC. Hit DELETE to enter BIOS. Set USB mouse and keyboard from OS to BIOS. Check to see if HDD and optical drives are seen by BIOS. If not, then go into 1st boot device and scroll all the way down the list. Do you see the name of your optical drive? If yes, then select it as the 1st BOOT. Hit F10 to save BIOS. Restart PC.

Go back to BIOS about 5 times to see if both IDE devices are seen in BIOS. Someone used the floppy cable instead of IDE cable. It happens if you're a noob.

You may not have a windows CD in the optical drive. That's why you see boot disk failure.

Tungfree:

Old command: AWDFLASH.EXE %1 /py /sn /cd /cp /cc

New command: AWDFLASH.EXE %1 /py /sn /cd /wb /cp /cc /cks

well that started to work and I thought it was going to happen then the power shuts off. So I tooke out the 480watt Antec blue and replaced it with Antec Earthwatts 500watt, and it quits in the middle, just as the Antec blue did, so the power supply is not at fault, the power goes out the way it did while flashing #12 into #14.
No idea why the power goes out...
I tried booting up with the hard drive just in case it was shutting off when done, but, No!

Create a Caldera DOS boot floppy and extract all files from the 12 BIOS to this floppy. Edit the file per my 1st post to include the WB switch. Do not mess around with 14 BIOS. Restart PC with boot disc in floppy drive. At the A prompt, type RUNME. System will automatically flash BIOS.

Nothing wrong with 12 BIOS. 14 BIOS is just a hair slower, but it fixes the double post and HD audio.

It will work fine with the windows flash utility after you've reset CMOS and turn off all non-essential applications in windows like FW, AV, etc. It's best to flash from floppy.

SerpentRoyal: I thought you were using the Earthwatts 500!!! Do not post Earthwatts 500 in your post, then use another PSU. We do not have ISP.

It only arrived Friday and I saw it on Saturday, I posted that was coming from ZipZoomFly Actually Came with the Hard drive but the Case will come Monday.
I only posted today that I swapped the Power supplies and that it made no difference in how the Rig behaved, same results with both. Both are being crashed with.

As to the setting up of the Floppy with the wd there was a help post that showed where to put it and I did boot up with Caldera and the #12 bios with the edited WD in it. And it crashes the power before it was done flashing with both power supplies The Antec Blue and the Eartwatts.

You were able to clean install windows? PC only crashed after software update? Then the problem is with the software, not hardware. You've memtested RAMs. They are okay. Did you clean installed windows and loaded the Intel chipset, sound, and LAN drivers? Once the OS is loaded with the appropriate drivers, make an image file of the OS for future restoration. Run memtest again and Orthos large mode for 10 minutes to test general system stability. Download all updates at your own risk.

You need to reseach before doing anything. IDE problem was user error. Raptor problem was due to lack of reseach for compatibility. I suspect PC was working fine until you load some update/patch. When an anomaly occurs, stop, ask questions before tweaking.

Okay, so I cleared cmos, pulled out the battery, switched the ied cable connection, and changed the drive jumper settings.

So now the grey end goes into the optical drive, the black part goes into the harddrive, and even after doing this they are not showing up in Bios. I saved/exited about five times and yeah...Out of ideas :S

Note: I haven't zero filled my hdd yet. I am very willing to do this, however, I do not feel comfortable doing this until I can at least get the optical drive recognized in Bios...The data I have is extremely sensitive and I don't want to so easily destroy it.

I've tried setting up my optical drive only in bios but it doesn't show up in the boot order list. Also, someone on the Abit forums says that although I am not supposed to have the IEEE 1934 under OnBoard PCI settings, I should still have the option to enable or disable the IDE Controller.

But the option to do this, enable or disable the IDE Controller, is entirely absent in my Bios. And in the manual, it says it should be there.
