Abit IP35 Pro fan control of 200mm fan

Is it possible (or a good idea) to control the 200mm fan in the Antec 900 case using one of the fan headers on the Abit IP35 Pro? I would need some kind of cable adapter because this large fan plugs straight into the 4-pin power supply connector. It must use a lot more power than smaller fans, so I am not sure if the fan headers on the board could handle it. But it would be nice to have variable speed control depending on the temp.

No problem with the MOSFET driven SYSTEM fan header. You'll need a 3rd wire (rpm sensor) for variable speed control.

The IP35-E will even work with a 2-wire DC fan when set to 3-pin mode.

excellent info. The 200mm fan is 2-wire. So the system fan header will not be able to control the voltage just based on temp? (I guess part of the feedback loop would be missing?).

Why would you even want to control that fan? It RPM is very slow as ready. It the quietest fan in the 900 case already even with the other fans set to low.

If it were possible, I'd set it to slow speed at normal temps, and allow it to blow lots of air in case something goes wrong (really hot day, if house AC stops working, or OC experiment).. The size of this fan would make it good for making big changes to the system temp only when needed.

Correct. IP35 Pro has uGuru and must rely on the 3rd rpm wire for speed control. IP35-E will be able to control a 2-wire or 3-wire fan if you connect the fan to the CPU or SYSTEM header and set the output from 4-pin to 3-pin.
