ABIT IP35E / E4300 / valueram? asynchronous memory mode

Hi.

On the Intel P35 chipset can i still use value ram or do i need pricey ram to overclock unlike the asus p5n-e sli with the 650 chipset.

well it depends on how much do you want to overclock, but the P35 chipset and P965 can handle high FSB up to 600.

pc6400 is good for 400 mhz FSB assuming 1:1

so if you o/c your 4300 to 9 x 400 (which i doubt youll be able to since the 4300's aren't known to be great overclockers), then the value ram will be good enough for you.

the ip35 (as well as other 965, 975 (minus the bad axe 2), P35) has only dividers to make your mem run faster than your fsb, none to make it slower.

A good E4300 can approach 3.6GHz with a superb cooler. Heat will be the major issue since the latest L2 stepping may come with 100C Tjunction (okay to Orthos test up to 75C without frying your CPU).

I also concur that most E4300s will top out around 3.2GHz with the stock cooler. I run mine at 3.46GHz with 1.465Vcore and 480MHz RAM speed (1:1.25 divider). 32M Super Pi time of 14 min 38.971 sec under Vista.
