Oh yeah... The Gigabit LAN.

EDIT: I decided to let the smoke clear for a change, and see what happens since many Forum members have received and will be receiving Canterwoods soon. I probably will end up with the IC7-G, more for the extra SATA ports than the CSA GL since I am toying with the idea of purchasing a couple of Raptors... I always did like the extra IDE ports that the IT7 had, and actually used them, as I am sure that the extra SATA ports will come in handy for me on the IC7-G. I am curious about the MSI offerings, but I am not holding my breath... (If OC'ing and overall performance turns out well, I may consider one though)

Many of the 875/865 boards have more stuff than I needed. This is a home PC and GigE is not something I would ever use. I already have a firewire card, TBSC sound and dont use RAID. I just need a basic board. I do like having 8 USB ports though!

Anybody know if the GIGABIT LAN is CSA? from the pics, it doesn't look like it's an intel chipset..

just read over at ABIT forums that the IS7-G is not using CSA (it's going through PCI - 3COM chipset)..

Gaidin, good sluthing! If I'm reading the website correctly, then the IS7 comes with 10/100 LAN, Firewire, and SATA RAID. Not a bad deal at all for $127 I plan on ordering this board today as a replacement for my 1.2 Thunderbird/SDRAM combo.

Confused, what is the difference between the IS7, IS7-E, IS7-G.... IS7-G obviously has firewire but I cant tell what the other differences are between the three models.

IS7-E no firewire or serial raid onboard( uses ICH5 instead of ICH5R)
IS7-G Raid via ICH5R and on board Silicon Image chip. Gigabit lan
IS7 raid via ICH5R only regular 10/100lan(though some said they have boards with gigabit lan chip on board)

Remember the IS7-E is based on the 865P chipset... not the 865PE, hence no 800Mhz FSB support. Definitely a major difference there.
Everyone I've heard of getting the IS7 has reported their board has the 3Com Gigabit LAN as well, though the specs say otherwise.
Abit seems disinclined to comment.

According to the Abit link gaidin123 posted, the IS7-E does have the 865PE and 800mhz FSB support.
Also if you go into the specifications it says it does have the ICH5 RAID...

It does appear that IS7-E does not have firewire, but that could be the only difference between it and IS7

Direct link to IS7-E on Abit site

On the actual MB page, only 533 FSB support is listed. However, the main 865 page does list the IS7E as having the 865PE chip. The 800FSB could be disabled in BIOS.

Right now, its hard to say how the final lineup will look like. The webpage has conflicting info and the shipping boards differ in specs. IE, my IS7 has a 3COM gigabit chip instead of the standard Realtek.

Bottom line: I took a chance with the IS7 and scored big time with gigabit lan. You could take a chance with the IS7E, but I don't recommend it. If you stick with the IS7 you'll get guaranteed 800FSB for only a few bucks more.

I was explicitly planning on getting one of these boards.

1) the chipset took too long to come out and I have no patience
2) it would be too much to ask to see someone bench a canterwood against a springdale- let alone IS7 v. IC7 class boards

reasoning: if they won't even review IC7, how in the !@#$ can we expect to ever see comparative benches?!?

its so retarded. oh well. I already bought my IC7, and I am having problems with it (frequent bios corruption), but that's okay because I don't have to deal with these waiting games anymore.

Edit: I took out the quasi-profanity
