Abit IS7 to Asus P4P800

If I am going from an Abit IS7 to an Asus P4P800 will I have to reinstall the OS or do a repair even though they use the same chipset and the drivers will be the same for the chipset?

Please tell me I won't have to do that

I'll do it if necessary, but I'd much rather not hassle with it again heh.

Probably not. Windows 2k or xp should reconfigure your settings. You might have one or two minor problems, requiring you to reinstall a device, but nothing major.

The only thing you will likely have to do is change NIC and soundcard drivers. With the chipsets being the same Windows itself should have no problems.

nice...they use the same nic anyway (3com gigabit) the only device not the same is the IS7 has firewire and I'll be adding an old card in to the P4P800.

I'll see what it does first before I do any windows repair.

The only thing that you'll need to do in XP (if you're running a legal version) is you'll have to re-activate it over the phone. Otherwise, switch away... I did, and I'm glad I did. MUCH more mature BIOS now.

I'm looking at getting either the Abit IS7 or the Asus P4P800 with a P4 2.4c. Which board would I be better of getting for OCing purposes if I want to take it up to around 3.1 Ghz or so? (The ~$35 difference isn't really a big deal).
