If you have this board have you had any success not using the DIMM sockets in order?
Or mixing RAM brands?
I have a 256MB Elixir DDR2100 that works great in DIMM 0,
but I get memory error beep codes in the other slots.

I had a 256 MB Crucial stick in DIMM 1 (with the Elixir in DIMM 0)
but only half the memory for it was recognized. I tried each stick individually in all slots and every combo gave me mem error beep codes except for the Elixir in DIMM 0.

The manual recommends using them in order but doesn't state you have to. I'm trying to figure out whether the Crucial stick is bad or the board has a problem. It has the latest BIOS and runs very stable with just the Elixir stick. I'd rather not buy another Elixir stick only to find out that DIMM 0 is the only good one.

I had this mobo for quite some time and it worked well for me. Abit IS rather particular about what mem slots they want you to populate and it what order. As long as I followed the manual I had no problems. BTW I was using Crucial mem for a while then some Corsair XMS 2400 at different times. Both brands worked fine on their own.

What sold mine down the road was a BIOS flash gone awry that caused me to RMA the board. Then I sold the replacement down the road.

I've had trouble using other brand memory with Crucial. It seems that Crucial memory is picky.

There is some type of memory restriction with the KT266A chipset. In the KR7A-133/KR7A-133R manual in section 2-3 it says you can't use x4 memory chips with this motherboard. So if you have a DIMM with say 64x4 bit memory chips, or 72x4 bit memory chips, you can't use them with this board.

When I bought this board, I already had 4 sticks of Crucial Registered ECC 256MB PC2100 DIMM's which would not work with this board. I forget exactly, but they used either 36x4 bit or 72x4 bit memory chips. I had to contact Crucial, and get them replaced with DIMMs that had x8 or x16 bit memory chips.

I have noticed that my board runs stable in some configurations, but not others. Currently, I have slots 01 and 04 populated. I cannot run Samsung PC2700 in 01, but in all other slots, it works fine. I can push to 167 FSB in some configurations, but crashes much lower in others. I settled on slots 01 and 04 after goofing around with it for two weeks. It's maybe my fault for running different name brands, (OCZ, and Samsung).
