ABIT KR7A & Athlon 1800XP Processor recognition

I am having a new motherboard and processor put in my computer; the dealer that I have used for years recommended going with the ABIT KR7A-Raid motherboard, and an Athlon XP 1800 processor. Well, I have been without my computer for about a week now (I'm using a loaner, which I just got today from the dealer out of desperation, thank god). I was supposed to get it back today, but this morning they told me that they believe the new ABIT motherboard is bad, because it will not correctly recognize the Athlon 1800 XP processor, it just identifies it as an Athlon 1150 processor. They tested the processor in another computer, and the processor itself is fine, and was recognized correctly in the test computer.

I noticed another similar topic when I did a search for the KR7A board, where someone was having the exact same problem.

My questions to all of you are, did ANYONE have the KR7A board correctly identify their 1800 XP processor?? Is this a known bug?? And if so, where is more information on it??? Or maybe this board is really bad as they are saying, and I must wait until next week for a new board to come in...I am more than a little concerned over the choice of this board now, and very disappointed. I had been looking forward to getting my computer back (all souped up) for over a week.

If anyone has any advice about this, or can relate any 1800 xp and KR7A stories, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if this is a "known" or "common" problem, can someone point me to some articles or "fixes" on this so I can show my dealer?? Anything you guys can share with me will be much appreciated.

What verion of the BIOS you use? Upgrade it to the latest 6N. Then, change your cpu to 1800+ manually under SoftMenu III.

The newest bios version offerend from abits website is installed.

They are saying that the processor doesn't detect the XP processor...

Are you guys saying that there is a menu where you have to manually select the processor yourself, that the motherboard doesn't automatically detect it??

Please explain in more detail.

I've got a KR7A-RAID with a Athlon XP 1800 and its detects it fine. No problem. Didn't update the BIOS or anything.

I have a 1900+ in mine and no problem recognising it.
I'm using the 6N 2.3 modified by Paul Here
It worked with the previous bios also the 6G
You have to manually select it.
It should be manually set to 133 not let bios auto detect it.

My KR7A/RAID BIOS automatically assigned a multiplier of 10 to my 1600+ (should be 10.5).

Other posts indicate the same problem. An Abit screw-up, but easily handled.

Just open the 'Softmenu III Setup' BIOS page, set 'CPU Operating Speed' to 'User Define', set 'Multiplier Factor' to the correct multiplier for your cpu and set 'CPU FSB Clock' to the desired FSB speed.

Hope this helps!

I have KR7A it does not detect my 1700 correctly either ...bit it is no big deal ..install the cpu ..after the post you get a error enter the bios and change it too 1800 and save and reboot

Everything will be fine..this only occurs on initially putting in the cpu

OK..here is what you do put the cpu in turm on the computer when the bios intializes hit the DEL key and you will enter the bios...
go under the first menu option soft menu iii setup
and highlight cpu operating speed and hit enter and change to 1800
