(Abit KT-7 owner) should I upgrade to KT-7a or Asus A7V133?

I currently own a kt-7 running a Duron 800 @ 1ghz (100x10). Although I like the board, it has had it's problems (sblive 686 issue, Plextor cd-rw). I was wondering if it is worth upgrading to the KT-7a. The reason for this is that the KT-7's KT-133 chipset does not support 133fsb. My memory is PC-133 and I know I could probably push my Duron a bit harder on the KT-7a. I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Does anyone own a kt-7a and Duron combo?
What o/c results have you been able to attain with this board and cpu combo?
Has any of you been able to get the Duron to run at 133fsb?

Or should I just scrap the Abit idea and go for an Asus ASUS A7V133???

I would say go DDR or wait for nforce. If you really want to go the SDR route, try Abit KT7E or Asus A7VE.

SDR SDRAM: Asus AV133 or MSI K7T Turbo

DDR SDRAM: Epox EP-8K7A, MSI K7 Master or Asus A7M266

A while ago I upgraded from a duron 700mhz with a Abit kt7 to a thunderbird 1200mhz with a Asus A7v133. I was very happy with the upgrade. Less irq problems and more overall stability.

If you want to go with sdr go with the iwill kk266. It's probably the best sdr mobo out there.

Since DDR memory is insanely cheap, go DDR and get the Epox 8K7A. Your duron will still be good and in the future you can go for the Palomino's as soon as they become available.

Durons only have a 100Mhz front side bus. So it doesn't matter if you have PC133 memory and the KT133a, your memory will only run at 100mhz.

Right? The memory frequency runs the same as the CPU bus frequency.

Cycleman,

If you have a mobo that handles 133FSB the duron will also run at that speed if you select it in the bios. I run my 800 @ 1000 using 7.5x133 and a KT7a RAID.

Cris, you should try a higher FSB setting for you 800 duron. From my personal experience, I have a 600mhz Duron at 894 113 x 8. It yielded performance games compared to 9 x 100 because of the higher fsb. Even though the KT7 only supports 100fsb, you can still get it to work around 110 - 115. That should hold you long enough for you to save for a DDR mobo.

Aircooled,
I have an AMD 900 and the A7V133. I can not change my clock multiplier. I can change it in bios, but it doesn't have an effect. The cpu runs as if I didn't change it. I can change the frequency, but that can only go so high. Am I doing something wrong?

cycleman,

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you need to unlock the chip by closing the proper bridges on the processor before you can change the multiplier.

Close the L1 & L7 bridges with a conductive pen (people also use a pencil or window defogger kits) and you will have complete control of the voltage and multiplier in the BIOS.
