Here is the story
I put a friend's system together.
Abit KT7 (300 Watt PS)
IBM 45gig HD
ATI Radeon
After installing those components the system ran good. We had no problems with it. After UPS finally deliver his SB Live he installed that. Then he started having a problem. When he exited the game Hitman the system would freeze hard. Had to hit reboot or power off. This is where it gets interesting because when you rebooted the system it would still hang on the boot up right at the end of desktop. You had to reboot into safe mode and disable the SB then reboot and you could play ONE more time before having to do it all over again. So I had a old POS sound card (Ensoniq) and slapped it in there. It worked...no problems. So he sent the SB back for a Phillips. Well we installed the phillips and you guessed it....same problem. So we did what we had to do. We formatted the system. Everything worked fine until today. We installed Half-Life Counter Strike and it locked up while trying to get on the net (Zone-Alarm I suspect) so we thought nothing of it and rebooted. Well guess what. Same exact problem except now disabling the sound does nothing. We can get it to boot about every 4th time by trying to disable various hardware and things in the startup (msconfig). Does anyone have a similar problem or solution? I don't want to format it everytime he wants to play a game. Thanks
