Abit KT7 issues

I just bought and abit kt7 and a duron 700. When I enter the CMOS all is well but when I hit save and exit or don't save or whatever it reboots to nothing. It acts like it kills the video. The monitor even goes into suspend. Then I have to literally unplug it and hit the manual power switch then turn it back on to boot. Anyone else have this or better yet know how to fix it?

It sounds like a wrong setting in the bios that isnt allowing it to boot. You say it works fine after that though? What are you memory settings?

Did you update the bios? I heard there are problems with early bios versions.

Make sure your RAM is in DIM 1, and set the each DIM to "turbo" in the Bios. I had the same problem. Hope it helps.

"Dim 1" Is that the one that is farthest from the CPU..That is what it looked like on the Motherboard.

I wonder why they put that little manual in the box? Because it seems alot of people never read them.Half the problems posted are found in that little manual.Read it

Boogeyman: I had the same problem. For me, it was that I had conflicting Advanced Power Management options selected in the BIOS and in Win98SE. In the BIOS, I was telling it not to let the OS handle APM. When I changed that, (I'm pretty sure this was the problem--it was 1 1/2 months ago) I stopped having the problem.

The first kt7 bios expects the 1.5default voltage of the slower durons instead of the 1.7 your 700 has. Flash to UL.

If your screen shows up dead after a reboot, push your reset button, and hold down the "Insert" key. It will default some of the settings in the bios, so that you can get back into the BIOS easier.

Thanks for all your help. Most of all rempe. With members like him on the board it is clear why so many people are helped. Anyway I fooled around with some settings and went into the bios a few times and it has actually worked. I really still don't understand the problem because after I "fixed" it I went back in and changed all the setting to try to see which one(s) are the problem and it still works. So, it works but I really didn't solve anything.

I hate this moterboard so much I already ordered the msi board and it will be here this week. screw this hunk o junk. too many wierd things happening for me that are for many others also that I won't put up with.

There is also a chance that you have the wrong multiplier and FSB choosen in the BIOS. If you are trying to overclock, are you sure that you have the chip unlocked?

I am not even trying to overclock......yet. This happened right out of the box.
