Abit kt7 raid ata66 controller question, what did you do to make it work?

hey all,

As almost everyone else here, i have been on my quest to get my ata66 maxtor HDD to work properly on this motherboard. so far this is what i got...it will work error free with a 40w cable, and jumpers set at master. i can oc the 900 to 1050 with no problems. but as soon as i use a 80w cable to enable ata66 support, win2k freezes...wont detect ide drives on boot up(bios), blue screens on rare occasions. so now i tried setting the jumpers to cable select with no success, bios wouldnt even detct my HDD. so where i stand now is...i disconnected the cdrom and cdrw from ide2, and connected the sole drive with an 80w cable to ide2 instead of ide1. maybe that will work...my question to you guys and gals is...

What did you guys do to have to get this to work???
i mean if all else fails, i will return to using the 40w cable just for stability's sake, but id like the extra burst speed i get with the 80w cable.
im just looking for more ideas on this as it seems i am about to exhaust my own.
ive been to the kt7faq page and all, but maybe someone tried something else that worked.

My only suggestion is that it sounds like you might have a bad ATA/66 cable. Did you try others, or just this one? Also, if the BIOS can't even detect the drives when you use the cable, then how does it blue screen? It shouldn't even boot up if it can't find a drive.

thats on occasion that the bios wont detct them, usually after a blue screen. i have tried to tw cables that came with the board.

Is ATA66 enabled on your drive? IBM was shipping their ATA66 drives set to 33 for a while to avoid all the headaches with using a 66 drive on a 33 controller. MAybe Maxtor did the same (Although I haven't heard anythin about that)

I think that the latest BIOS update should clear that up, Try one of Abit's BeTA bioses that upgrades the HPT370 Bios to 1.0.3, thats what i'm using and it runs my Diamond Max 45plus (15GB x 2) in Raid 0 under 2k/nt4/98se with out a hiccup..

loosbrew I have same trouble with my KT7 I have been running the 40 cable with no trouble at all and the 80 cable wont work i have tried three different cables and thats not it.

I have the latest bios update for KT7 and that dosent fix it I wish some one could help out here there had to be people with same trouble that solved it please let us know Thanks. P>S I tried a search and came up with nothing.
