Abit KTA7 Raid owner ,pls come in

HI, thank you for help. \
I will get this mobo soon, but I don't want to use raid, since I only have one HD.
My question is : If I do not intall raid software, It will function like a 8 IDE mobo, that is Can I use more than 4 IDE device on it?

Yes i do think that this will work, although I have heard somewhere that it's not recommended

Hi there,

I'm assuming you mean the KT7AR, so I'll jump in. You are correct in your assumption that you don't need to use RAID to use the additional IDE controller. I have the KT7R, which is essentially the same board.

You still need to load the Highpoint controller driver, in order to use those IDE channels. Just because you load the driver does not mean you HAVE TO use RAID. I just had one HD as Master on one of those channels for the longest time.

You will then have 4 IDE channels, each capable of having a Master and Slave device on each one. This should be plenty, especially if you're not running a RAID array. Hope this helps.

It works perfectly. But you should put your ATAPI devices(CD roms, zip etc) on the via controller

Yep, ZZZZZ (did I put enough Z's? ) is correct; I neglected to mention that. The Highpoint controller does not like ATAPI devices like CDRoms/Zip drives on it. Good catch Multi-Z!

I have tried using my DVD and CD-RW drives on the HP raid controller and have not encountered any probs at all.

The latest bios takes the option for non-hd drives out. So don't flash if your happy. HTH
