ABIT NF7S quality on the integrated sound... what is your OPINION?

I have the NF7S motherboard from ABIT and I want to put on a set of speakers for Dolby Digital movie watching on my PC.. anybody have any experience with this aspect of the motherboard? Is it comparable to a quality 5.1 sound card?

No, the analog outputs are no better than an AC97 board. If you're using digital out though, it'll be fine.

D'oh, I don't plan on using the digital optical... I'm planning on plugging the 5.1 into the individual analog slots that are on the back of the comp (sorry if I can't explain it better)

WHat do you guys think?

Indeed, it's decent, especially for integrated sound, but it's not a true replacement for a discrete sound card, especially in this case.

Buy an amplifier that is capable of digital input!
(Unlike computer parts which have a lifecycle of max 2 years, you will be able to use a good amplifier for MANY sweet years.)

On my system, it sounds like crap compared to my Santa Cruz card. I have these old (3 years) Harmon Kardon 2.1 simulated surround speakers that I plug into the Versa Jack on the Santa Cruz. From the Santa Cruz control panel I then select the output to be 4.1 Digital Out. I have no idea how/why it works given the speakers are not digital but it sounds awesome. If anyone knows what the heck I'm talking about please reply because I've been curious about this whole "Versa Jack" thing for a long time!

I'd say the nVidia effects sound cooler and are more fun than the preset ones on the TB Santa Cruz.

I'm no audiophile but the sound is great. Music is about equal the sound of my TBSC and gaming is better. IMO.

Cool, you guys hear anything about little constant beeps/buzzes while the speakers are decoding dolby in movies?

I've heard that some users have these problems but I never have. Not with my NF7-S nor with my 8RDA+. Then again, I have my SB chip cooled and my system is configured properly.
