Abit or ECS?

I bought the VA-20 for friend. Good board, only problem with it is one of the black magnets surrounded by copper wire makes a high pitched noise. It's not loud, but you can notice it.

First you have to ask whether two identical boards could use the same BIOS, then you need someone to buy the motherboards for you?

I'd be glad to send you the boards, but it seems you are so clueless that I would end-up having to flash the motherboard BIOS for you, too.

They don't use the same components though. For example, all ABIT boards use Japanese capacitors.

The fact that Abit uses ESC as a mobo fab isn't as important as you think. Abit designs the boards and has them built to their specs and testing regimen.
ECS may learn something from it but it certainly doesn't mean ECS designed boards are as good.

I also believe Shuttle uses ECS' fabs as well.

And I get such a giggle to think that probably 50% or more of those fan boys have an ECS designed or manufactured board but don't know it. lmao!

You can get a bad mobo at times from any company, but it usually somes down to who installs it and picks out the parts that go with it IMO.

You are accussing people of people fanboys because they won't buy motherboards from the worst motherboard manufacturer in the industry?

Sounds like you are just a fan of ECS and it hurts your feelings that everyone thinks your motherboard is junk.

"worst motherboard maker", yes right. ECS's own sales - 2nd biggest in the industry behind ASUS - are just the tip of the iceberg. ECS is _huge_, huge in the OEM business, where a quality problem loses you millions of sold boards not just one.

You might want to call all those companies that have decided to let ECS make and even design their stuff because they trust in ECS quality - Abit, Shuttle, Apple, Supermicro, and many smaller ones - and tell them their product is heading for disaster, Mr. Super Expert.

In case you haven't been keeping track, many of those companies you mentioned are having quality issues.

No, when you SELL a lot of boards and maintain your level for over a decade, then you're obviously doing something right in the OEM business.

But go ahead, ring those companies up and tell them how to improve their product. Save the industry single-handedly, since you obviously know better than the decision makers there.

I have owned lots of different brand/boards in my time from Abit to ECS(still working btw with my old Enermax PSU and Crucial ram) and other brands like MSI,Epox,DFI,QDI etc....In the end I have never had any real problems (apart from leaking caps on my ex-Epox board after 2 years but virtually all manufacturers were effected with this problem few years back).


IMHO quality of the PSU,RAM etc are more important then the manufacturer of the board in question,clean install of OS can help a lot as well.

Err...no. In this case, Abit selected a standard ECS OEM/ODM design and then requested certain customizations that private labelers are always allowed to choose, such as PCB color, onboard options, CNR/AMR options, and yes capacitor selection like Japanese-only.
