Abit tech support: Worst ever

I've been working with Abit for a long time about a very simple problem.

I can't get my microphone to work

While this maybe my fault somewhere, trying to get help was the worst experience ever. Here is the summary (I have taken out the to/reply and signature type stuff) Take it for what you will. I think each time I wrote back it was like starting over with them, and the advice they gave was very bad. This is a fairly long post, but it can get semi-funny so it isn't a horrible read.

Me: "I recently got a headset/mic to use for online games, but when I plug them in I get "Sense front connector failed" and "Sense Surround connector failed" from the Abit Audio EQ software. And the main point is that the headphones and mic don't work. Now I figure this is probably my fault somewhere. I built this system myself and I may have missed something. I also tried removing the jumpers and connecting to the frontpanel instead (yes I know how about the whole front/back thing) and got the same error. So I\'d just like to know if I forgot to do something that would cause this? Thanks for your time"

Tech support: "Dear Valued Customer, In the Sound control panel please set the green audio port to head phone and the pink audio port to Mic. please beaware the onboard sound does not have amplification. so you must use a self powered head phone."

Me: "Thanks for the quick reply, but it didn't solve my problem. I have no clue what "sound control panel" is. Nowhere in my Abit Audio EQ is there a place called sound control panel, and no where in window's "control panel" is there a way to change this. Please explain in more depth what you mean, and how to get to this option to switch the audio ports."

Tech Support: "Dear Valued Customer, Disable the auto sensing in the ABIT AUDIO EQ. see attached picture see if that works or not."

Me: "Again, I can't get it to work. I need better instructions. I STILL have found no way to "switch the ports" as was stated in the first email. and that picture did nothing for me. Disabling the auto detection also did nothing. I am fairly sure what you want me to do is the correct thing but you cannot explain it very well. Please use more than one sentence to explain how to do whatever it is that you want me to do. I cannot find a way to get the green port as mic and the pink to be line in...

From my last email:
Please explain in more depth what you mean, and how to get to this option to switch the audio ports.

Response:
Disable the auto sensing in the ABIT AUDIO EQ. see attached picture see if that works or not.

The response has NOTHING to do with ports. Please take more than 30 seconds to reply to me, I've taken hours working on this myself, and another 20 minutes writing these emails to you guys. "

Tech Support: "Put the jumpers back for the FP_AUDIO header. and test the ports with a regular speaker and regular Mic see if they work or not."

Me: "Nope, nope, nope, nope....

I switch the headers (take them out, as said in the manual) and I get no sound, no mic, no headphones, no nothing.

NOW, I have lost the headers and can't even get the normal speakers running.

Is it possible to pick up more headers from a local store? or do I need to order them from you

Do I have a defective motherboard? If the manual says removing the headers will enable FP audio, why are my speakers going out?

Do you or do you not understand the problem? Am I the only one that has this problem? WHY can't we get a solution here? Not like you guys reply anything other than the fastest or simplest solutions (that don't work) anyways.

****LASTLY: this email (Email adress here______ ) will no longer be active after today. Please reply to (Other email adress here______) instead*****"

(Note: Although I Very clearly asked them to reply to a different email at the end, I never heard back from them, Later I started up a new tech support request)

"OK, I tried working with Abit Tech support before, and I got horrible service. I replied to tech support and they didn't even get back to me last time. Please please please give me real help this time. If I don't I'm going to give up on this company and tell all the
people I know (hate to say it but I'm fed up if you can't tell). At least let me know that you UNDERSTAND the problem, it really is very simple. *My Mic and headphone jack's don't work*. When I plug in my mic I get a "Sense Mic Connector failed" and "Sense Front connector failed" and "sense surround connector failed". I am guessing that it
is probably a setting somewhere (I have checked the audio setting to make sure that mic was unmuted and volume turned up) that is screwed up, maybe flashing the bios?. PLZ help me figure this out!"

Tech support: "If your audio headers comes with jumpers, then please put the jumper back for the FP_AUDIO header and try the ports at the back. For detail position of the PF_AUDIO pinout please see user's manual. If you hear sound, then the problem is with the front panel on the case. You must contact the case manufacture to make sure that the front panel has signal loop back features."

Me: "Are you assuming I use front panal audio? I'm not - I'm plugging into the
back of the motherboard. I did once try to use front panal and my speakers
didn't even work. I know about how the headers are supposed to be (yes from
the mobo manual) for both front and back panal and neither works."

Tech Support: "Dear Valued Customer, Please check your CPU, memory, power supply, video card, keyboard, and any devices that's connected to the motherboard to make sure they work before you put them into the motherboard. If any of the above part is defective, then it could cause problems to the system. "

This last one did it in for me... My system has nothing that doesn't work besides the microphone but they want me to test my cpu, powersupply, etc? I just don't understand and I'm done with Abit for the rest of my life.

Hey DrBosk, ur post is hilarious...abit sad that you still have this problem. I don't have an abit mobo (I have an Epox) so I can't help you but I think the anandtech experts here will gladly share some pointers with you (I think they will give you a "more than one sentence" response). I know they have a Abit mobo messege board here, maybe you can bump it there for help.
