Able seaman

I have met all the requirements to be able bodied seaman. I just need to send in all my paperwork.

Some of the stuff I have done in the past year,

Over 240 days of seatime. Day and a half for every day on the water.
Survival craft training - lifeboat, liferaft, flotation devices, immersion suits,,,.
Basic understanding of the rules of the road
Basic first aid
CPR certified
Drug test

Added bonus, lost 35 pounds in the past year.

Going in April for my Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) training.

Nice dude. Did you have to do HUET training by any chance? I had to do that to fly out to some of the rigs and boy is that course a rush. And I'm a fan of the water either (or at least not a fan of being forcibly submerged).

I am not required to take that training. Thought about taking it just for the experience.

What does day and a half for every day on the water mean?

Since we live on the boat we get a 1.5 days for everyday on the boat.

Spose not since you stick to the sea and not the air. Did you go to the Robert training center for survival craft training? That's where I did HUET (and survival craft). I got my Rigpass in Houma though.

Is that cert only good for working the oil rigs? OR, can you use it to get into the Merchant Marines or one of the other merchant ship careers?

yes...I know that. It's what he's been doing...I asked if it's something he can turn into a merchant career...possibly getting his boat driver license. (Master Mariner)

I found BOSIET more enjoyable because we were able to use an EBS
