<< Fetus, patient... same thing. You couldn't legally turn off life support for somebody in a coma, and dependent on machines. Maybe that day will come, though. Will you be fighting for that too? >>
Well, again, the person in a coma is a legal citizen who has already been born, so they have natural rights. But you can legally turn off life support for these individuals under current law if that is the best choice in terminal cases. I also generally favor right-to-die statutes. I ground my positions with the ideal that each living individual ultimately has control over their own lives that nobody can take away; that includes permitting mothers to exercise reproductive health choices. When the potential rights of two entities directly conflict - that of the mother and that of the unborn - it is only just to side with the legitimately living mother. Otherwise, you are tipping the scales too far in favor of something that cannot even think on its own rather than a living human. That is the part of the equation that abortion abolition does not consider: the mother. It's too insensitive to the needs of the living and this is why I support maintaining women's choices.
