I'm not sure it would have been successful then. I remember being totally shocked when the NBA stopped it's season (3/12) and a few days later (3/17) absolutely stunned when the NCAA canceled March Madness (probably giving up hundreds of millions of dollars for it's schools).

I'm semi-retired, was doing on-call work until I canceled it on my own 3/17.

Irrelevant—Trump had intelligence reports in early January, and by early March we knew enough about the virus to understand what impact it could have. My daughter’s birthday party was March 7 and I remember planning contingencies the week before in case the venue closed (it didn’t and no one canceled.)

What we didn’t know was how many cases we had at the time (because of faulty CDC tests and us refusing the WHO tests). I doubt Trump would have implemented a national stay-at-home order even if he had the data, but he didn’t have the data. Nor did any governors.
