about AMD athlon 1.4GHZ

Hi, i just bought AMD athlon 1.4GHZ. and i need help? the problem was do i need to marked someting on the cpu? coz my bro put a marked on his amd athlon 1.0 GHZ. and he put something like a silver thing. do i need to do that or just put the cpu on the motherboard and simply take out the sticker on the cooling fan and then put it on the mother boad?

what do you mean by "mark"? what kind of mark? If he's putting on silver thing on his CPU it's probably thermal paste that's used for better contact between the HSF and die. Is he spreading the silver goop on the die? If you bought a retail packaged CPU or bought a HSF with thermal tape underneath the heatsink. You won't need teh silver paste (arctiv silver probably) unless your temp is too high and you want to overclock. Remember to remove the tape covering the thermal tape on the HS if you have one with thermal tape.

Ask ur bro about this. Since u r a newbie. Ask him to install the CPU + HSF for u.

Tht silver thing is termal compound (most probably ASII). It is used to transfer heat better than the pad u have on ur HSF.

If u decided to use the termal pad on ur HSF. PLEASE PULL OFF THE STICKER ON THE HSF FIRST.

But using termal compound is better than the pad. So, ask ur bro bout it.
