Hi,

Is it true that I should plug my laptop to power outlet as much as possible to enhance battery life? I mean, is it true that if I keep power plugged in even after battery is fully charged, power current will bypass battery & laptop will run on direct power and there by reducing battery decay?

I did try to find answers but all I did get was contradicting ways of preserving the laptop battery and extending its life. So, can someone please shed some light on this???

Thanks.

that is open to interpretation..

we have lenovo laptops thats been fully charge since 2006/2007 and it only lost 6% charge since.

I have lenovo laptops doing the same full charge and some has not even lost full charge capacity

It charges full and stops charging, you can set upper charging limits.

I have a Lenovo T510, and it spends 90% of the time sitting here on a desk connected to A/C waiting for me to go on a trip. I have done this for years - I totally remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place, ideally at about 50% charge. It lasts and lasts and lasts that way.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will also remove battery at half charge and store it. Shall use it only when needed. Have come across plenty of people recommending so. Cheers.

I did not know about the 40%-50% half charge for batteries, and storing them, if you are just going to use AC power. Good to know.

I just ordered a new battery for my new laptop (got a Gateway NV55C from a pawn shop), and the battery that came with it probably only lasts about two hours or so (doing programming and web browsing with WiFi). I'm guessing the previous owner just left the battery in and laptop plugged into the wall. At my last job as a software dev, we worked on laptops that were always plugged into the wall (battery in too) unless we went on a trip (maybe once a year for a week). The battery life on those was TERRIBLE. Maybe 30 minutes at the most.
