So I need an lcd next year by may. Theres a good deal on an lcd right now but I am not sure whether to buy or to wait for ?lcd prices to drop? What do you think?
Prices are coming down but who knows for how much longer. I would say, if you find a good deal, take it. But be warned that a better deal may come out the following week. I do not know of anyway to predict the prices of LCDs over the next months or even year. I wish I could be more helpful, but I hope this does help.
Now is a reasonably good time to buy in the 20" segment, since prices have fallen pretty nicely lately. I see Newegg has good 1680x1050 and 1600x1200 LCDs for < $300 at this point.
A heuristic I use is to expect the "next size up" to move into the $250-$400 range each year - so next year, around this time, I'd expect to see 21" and 22" LCDs at those prices. You make the decision as to whether you want to wait.
There will always be a "better deal" tomorrow - somewhere. Anything you buy today will be obsolescent in a year. So, you buy when you can get good value for something you want (more important than need.)
