Here is the TV we have now

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_305TXP2...ures_and_specs

The picture is great, but the size sucks.

Anyway....We've been getting a lot of hand me down stuff from the in-laws. That we needed. Like a practically new mattress. And now, it's gonna be her moms entertainment center. We had planned on getting a bed with out tax refund, but now we don't have to worry about that. So, if we sell our current entertainment center and sell this current tv, we should be able to get a decent TV if we dip into the tax refund too.

I have a PS3 and a mediocre surround sound system if that makes any difference.

I at least want 1080P and better than 60hz if it's an LCD TV. Other than that, I'm up for any suggestions. I'm not sure how big the entertainment center will hold. I will have to measure it when we go this weekend. But, I'm thinking in at least up to a mid 40 inch would fit. I don't need the latest LED 3D INTERNET GOOGLE whatever TV. More concerned with proper size and picture quality.

How far will you sit from the tv? Is the room it's going in going to have a lot of light? Would there be a lot of glare for the tv? Budget?

Couch is about 12' away from the TV.

Room has 2 windows, but I would not consider it to be a brightly lit room. You can see the windows in the screen pretty good at certain times of the day and certain angles. I'm not sure on budget, but I'm thinking $800 tops. Maybe $1,000 depending on how much I get for the old stuff.

i'm getting a Sammy 58 550 plasma. No pointless pre-equipped internet apps, no 3D, negligible difference in dynamic contrast rate between that and a 7000 or 8000 series,
and they're virtually the same in all other respects.

costs less than 1400 shipped. if you can wait until march/april when the new sets
begin to debut, then you'll be able to take advantage of significant price reductions.

Plasmas tend to have better lighting uniformity than LCDs (especially on a purely black screen), far deeper blacks, and subjectively better colors overall. However, they also tend to use more power, run a bit hotter, and often are a bit thicker than LCDs.

IMO, plasma is the superior technology, but there are a few inherent drawbacks (price, power consumption, image retention) that still make LCDs attractive to some.

After reading so much, I'm finding that all those drawbacks are almost a thing of the past. I've read reviews where people noticed less heat than the LCD they replaced, and a lot of reviews where "burn-in" was unheard of. Even people leaving a video game on overnight to prove their point.
