I have a 6870 now that maxes out BF3 but the card has **** drivers and it is damaged at this point so I want to stick with Nvidia this time, and eVGA for their sick warranty program.

I'm about to buy a GTX 570 1580MB for $295.. is this a good purchase? For future proofing as well? I have a big enough case and adequate cooling, and I don't want overkill..

The only issue I can think of is the VRAM.. I play at 1080p so I heard 2gb would be better.

I only plan on playing BF3 and Diablo 3 (if it lives up to my expectations) at 1080p.. I can afford a 580 but I just feel like it's overkill, the 570 seems like a good compromise? I want to stay as far away from AMD as possible this time.

What problems have you had with AMD drivers? I've had flickering issues, but that was fixed by using driver sweeper and reinstalling the drivers.

My screen splits in half and I have to restart my computer every time I start a game. I've tried every possible driver fix, reinstalling windows, etc.. it's not a problem with my power supply either, not a heat problem, etc.

Frankly I'm not willing to try AMD ever again, I used to have an 8800 GTX+ from evga and I loved it.. sticking with Nvidia this time around.

What you describe isnt a driver issue from the sounds of it. Especially if you have gone as far as reinstalling windows and used the most recent drivers.

If the card is under warranty, RMA it.

The gtx570 would be a decent upgrade over the 6870 for sure, while also with more vram which bf3 loves.

My old 2gb gtx560 clocked near ti specs would play BF3 maxed out all ultra@1080p without msaa enabled,so the gtx570 would even be even better if you plan to disable msaa.

I say go for it.

Hmmm I would say not at this point. For $250, yes... If I were you, I would either bump up to the hd7870 ($350) or wait another 6-8 weeks for Nvidia's midrange to come out and hopefully put out a better performance per dollar card in the price range you are looking for.

I have the GTX 570 and I love it... if you buy it from an authorized EVGA re-seller, you can use the EVGA step up program and only pay the difference to upgrade to a more powerful card (60 days after purchase if want more powerful card)...

For example you paid $295 for the GTX 570... but changed your mind and wanted a GTX 680... then you only pay $204 (minus rebates, etc) for the GTX 680 after trading in your GTX 570...

That is how I went from a GTX 470 to a GTX 570....

Right... so you're not buying hardware from AMD ever again because you have a card that's defective? What you're experiencing isn't a driver but a hardware issue, so you need to RMA your card.

And hardware issues aren't exclusive to AMD. There's tons of people with GeForce 8000 series cards that have needed to "bake" them because of the chip's soldering.

If the card was working fine before the hardware issues and you were happy with it then just RMA.

I'm sick of waiting man, my card has been defective for 3 months now and I've not played any games since then.. I've been too busy with relocation for work, and work itself, and getting settled in that I just want a quick fix.

The 6870 wasn't the greatest for BF3 anyways, I mean it did fine but there were definitely stutters every now and then.. time for an upgrade.

The card was fine when I bought it but it started to screw up 4-5 months after.. unacceptable. I just want something reliable, and from my experience EVGA is a much more reputable company than XFX, and their cards seem to be of a higher quality.. and their warranty program is probably the best out there.

I went ahead and bought the 570.. there's no reason any game now or in the near future that I should buy a 580 I think.

It stuttered because I was too slow of those settings. You are really behaving immature as others have pointed out

Wait, what? A few in-game settings cause the screen to split in half and the computer to crash? This isn't a case of cranking up the settings at all.

You are not having driver problems bud! So don't blame drivers.

My opinion, the 7850 would have been a better choice.

It can reach 570 to 580 levels with overclocking in a lot of games, and even O/C'd, draws less power than a stock 570, while having 2GB of ram.

Sorry about your 6870, stuff happens. The only card I've ever had die on me was a EVGA GTX 465 after a few months. (and 1 DOA XFX 5450)
