About to cut cable service completely...including internet. Anyone else did this?

Anyone else do it? My cable bill jumped from ~70ish, to 80ish and now to $120 in 3 months time and I NEVER use my cable box, and telephone service is good enough for me.

I am actually looking forward to calling them after work and telling them to completely f off. I'm tired of paying bills. The next big bill I plan to get rid of is my car lease and the insurance, gas and other fees associated with that, but that won't happen for another year and a half.

Everytime your bill goes up you gotta learn to call them immediately and bitch a fit until they bring it down or make it something reasonable. I refuse to pay more than $30-50 for cable internet (depending on speed offer is where I decide if the higher end is worth it or not).

But to answer your question: Yes, fucking get rid of cable TV and get with the rest of us nerds that have learned to download linux distros.

I should have been more clear - I want to cut both Internet and TV service. I am happy with my Verizon LTE (unlimited through work) and Unlimited TMobile service.

I want to completely cut myself off. I only use OTA antenna service in my bedroom.

Can't rely on cell phone for complete internet here but only have $44.99 spectrum 100meg wifi, nothing else. Netflix, Amazon Prime and a ROKU TV. Painless

That's a good deal, I pay $50 for 75/25.

Nope I still have FIOS TV and Internet because I'm not strap for cash and can afford luxuries of like $1000/yr to watch whatever the hell is on the hundreds of channels that I want to watch. I actually have FIOS triple play but I have never had a land line hooked up in the almost 6 years we have lived here. Triple play was cheaper than not getting the phone.

Well good for you mr. goodie toosh...

Some of us prefer to be responsible with our money to save that extra $150/month and spend it on more responsible things like booze and (in my case) expensive beers.

edit: And, of course, hookers and blow.

I did that years ago and lived off of my Verizon LTE hotspot when LTE first came out. It wouldn't work today. Too unstable for everything plus my entire house is smart.

We just dropped cable TV, but I would not drop internet. I am on a shared plan for cell phone with other some other family, and am limited to 6gb per month. Dont really miss cable at all.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I could live off of mobile Internet only. The bandwidth caps would suck.

Mobile data sucks

Yeah... in theory, you can tether off of your smartphone for Internet access.

In reality, the latency sucks (so forget gaming), they'll throttle you if you try to watch streaming video (hope that you like watching everything in 480p), and you get stuck with a lousy data cap (around 22 GB) even if you have a so called "unlimited" plan. Download one or two games, and you're basically done with high speed data for the month.

Home internet is requirement for me like water and electricity so I can't drop that. We watch 99% of free TV programming from the internet. I dropped home phone and cable/satellite TV years ago. I also don't subscribe to any pay streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime. I would drop something like Costco membership before I dropped home internet.

I cut cable internet in the summer of 2014...relied on Verizon LTE. Last Summer, I realized my kids were watching the same recorded shows on DirecTV and I was paying $110/month and all I watch is the news (NBC) and football. I'm a NFL season ticket holder, though rarely attend games....they give me gamepass for free so I can play catch-up on my phone or at work.

We're going on 1 year without DirecTV. I had them suspend our account for 6 months to test out tolerance for having no service without dealing with the service charge risks of a disconnect/reconnect.

I dropped $80 on a good HDTV antenna with a pole and mount and put it on the side of my house.....ran the coax down to where the splitter is so I have a decent feed to all TVs. My only complaint is that my house is mostly one level and long coax runs on the original lines cut out for some channels. I recommend making sure you have rg6 or whatever is the newest to make sure you don't have much signal loss if you have a 3500 sq ft house like me.

One more thing....2 years ago, my wife and I switched to Sprint Freedom Unlimited....we pay $100/month and can stream up to 10gigs per line per month. I stopped gaming online and we just don't netflix and chill....we red box and chill instead. We've saved thousands of dollars.

I can't imagine going without internet, but I did recently cut cable and land line. That brought my internet bill to under $100/mo. I was not watching lot of TV nor did I use the landline that much. It was still nice to have a home phone though, but I can live without it.

That said, I think I could live with slower internet if I had to, but it's not really any cheaper to get slower internet than what I have now so there's no point in downgrading.

My cable bill is $280 a month. I just called them up and said "give me whatever package Scrooge McDuck would order after a swim in his vault pool full of gold" and they gladly complied.

If you still have a cell phone, you haven't cut anything, you've just put it all on that one thing.

I haven't have any pay tv service for years (at least over the last 10 years or so) and I haven't miss any of them. OTA antenna for local news and the big network stations such as ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, etc.

I am paying for cable (internet only and nothing else) for about $40 a month and $35 a month for cellphone.

That's my bills for technology. Not too shabby.

I still haven't called. There is no really good hotspot only data plans out there. Ugh.
Still looking for something with about 10GB for cheap. It doesn't exist.

I pay $30 plus taxes for AT&T 50/12. It seems fast enough for me.
