Getting a 2014 Ford Escape S(base) model for 18,675(plus ttl)
I dont have kids, just me and the wife and 2 dogs, so im not worried about hauling around dozens of kids.

I am just ready for something that doesnt sit on the ground like my current jetta.

Any and all advice is welcome!

Sounds like a heck of a deal.
yep, and *sometimes* that is a red flag - quality, engineering, design. finish might be lacking compared to competition. Or you can get lucky and get reliable car for cheap. Many people don't want to gamble, that's why best sellers often don't have these crazy discounts.

Ford is making really great cars these days. We were looking at the Escape & Flex. You really can't go wrong. Great price on the base model. I just picked up a Kia Soul yesterday instead because we decided this would be "my" car, so I got the one I wanted, in the color I wanted, with a stick-shift, instead of a more practical family automatic with higher MPG. I think Ford has made a pretty good comeback though - it sounds like you want it, so I'd say go for it!

what does it matter? seems you are not open to reason and hell bent on getting that Ford. do whatever makes you happy.
just remember it will depreciate faster than any toyota, honda, or nissan. it will give you problems when you least expect it. your life will be tormented by it. unfortunately for you, there is an Escape.

Don't get the Rogue. It sucks. The Escape is much better, inside and out.

If it's a car you like, do a few searches around the web for common issues or major issues, and if you're satisfied with what you read, get it. Any car can break down on you at any moment, it's just Murphy's Law, and you can't escape it.

How many gold trimmed camrys or maximas are there in your household?

I say go for it. I am the original owner of a 2002 Escape that now has 140,000 miles and has never had any major problems. It was my first Ford and has been a great experience for me.

Yep, my GF had a 1st gen Escape that was bulletproof. Hard to compare with current gen though. The only thing that is even remotely similar are the names ford, escape, and duratech. Speaking of, a 2.5l is going to be a "leisurely" experience. Hope thats ok. I haven't warmed up to the styling yet but the car mags and reviewers all sing the new escape's praises. Price is nice, hard to get into any cute-ute for less than $20K.

I haven't driven an Escape, but I have heard good things about the MySync stuff. If it comes with that, that is a plus!

any suggestions on something less "leisurely" in the segment. I drove the rogue and it did feel faster, but my brain might have just been confused by the CVT
