About to sublet an apartment, for I have a question...

I found a place in NYC to stay for the summer. It's decent and what not. But i have a question regarding paying for rent. How should I pay? I'm a little weary of paying cash because there wouldnt be any paper trail. So should I pay my check? What do people who sublet usually do?

Have you verified that sub-letting is allowed by the landlord? You COULD get a rude surprise when the landlord shows up and kicks you out...
