Every time I see a stupid comment like this, which happens in every thread about a TV Series or Movie, I picture the poster as this guy:

http://www.methodshop.com/2009/06/warcraft-temper-tantrum.shtml

You just discovered that video today through Conan/Kristen Stewart interview you poser.

Anyway, BEFORE i saw the movie I thought I was going to hate it for sure. The trailers I saw did not impress me at all, I mean who builds a star ship on the ground? It's supposed to be in a space dock but I didn't know it was an alternate universe, I thought it was just a re-do.

I must have watched that movie 5 times now, I think it's great even though I never suspected that there would be bully Vulcans.

That whole scene including the apple, was awkward not too mention I think it's stupid test. If they really want to see how a officer acts in a no win situation they should sneak it in on various practice missions. Everyone would know how to handle this situation if it is so famous in their universe, as if they wouldn't figure out that fighting means losing the test.

I didn't like the industrial look of the inside of the ship either, even some of the elevators looked like they were in a coal mine or something. And the bar fight scene, it exactly like I would have expected in a WWII era movie, there was no "Future" there at all.

The one actor I was surprised that I liked was urhura. I've never cared for that character before but she was great in this movie. I wish when kirk ran at her when he had those giant puffed up hands that she would have screamed, "Don't touch me again" and covered up her breasts with her hands.

I liked Uhura, but I hated the Spock romance thing. It was totally unnecessary and forced.

Also, to respond to not getting the point of the scene, I totally got it, and it wasn't played right. He could have been a little cocky, but Pine was so over the top the instructors would have stopped the test because something was obviously wrong. The scene came off as corny.

I hate how overly cocky he played that. I also hate how "informal" everyone is on the bridge, and why is a medical officer in charge of targeting?

 I also found the apple really annoying.

The piping was ridiculous and the engineering areas had so much wasted space. It looked more like a warehouse or brewery than the inside of a spaceship

It IS a brewery. They filmed that sequence in a Budweiser beer factory.

Budweiser? Man would I love to be beamed into a giant pipe and flushed through the entire Budweiser brewery.

That reminds me, I didn't like the give and take between Scotty and that Ewok... or the fact that Kirk is beamed right where he needs to be to hook up with Spock. But it's Star Trek, have to take off the thinking cap and enjoy the ride.

I really liked that movie. The actors were great versions of the characters, and the story line they used made a way for the writers to make a new, unique series.

Now, almost 4 years later, I am a bit less enthusiastic about where the movies will go. So far? Nowhere.

It reminds me of watching Enterprise. They get a great story going, and then, CANCEL!

I thought it was entertaining, and done well enough, certainly better than some of the craptastic movies that came before like Star Trek 5 and 6, but it was definitely not great. Good action flic, would watch again when in the mood for action, but there was a lot of room for improvement.
-Beastie boys in the opening was stupid.
-Apple scene was stupid
-McCoy looked like a characiture (sp?) of McCoy, and I like that actor
-Spock was too cocky, emotionless does not mean cocky. It was clear that he was annoyed and threatened by Kirk at the beginning. Yeah, those are emotions. And I never knew Nemoy Spock to ever really let his human side through, whereas in this movie he was portrayed as constantly struggling with his emotions.
-Lens flare was AWESOME!

The Spock thing might have had something to do with his youth, as most humans are much more emotional when they are younger thus maybe he had a harder time controlling it then...thus the scene where he fights his classmates as a child.

For all the people bagging on the kid who played Kirk, I thought he was perfect as The Kirk.

I agree almost completely with your assessment, but I really did like McCoy in this one. I think Karl Urban (and all of the actors, actually) need to really grow into their roles more.

The Kobayashi Maru scene had way too much Kirk cockiness and swagger; if I'm remembering correctly, in The Wrath of Khan Savvik had mentioned that it was something of a mystery to everyone as to how Kirk had solved the no-win scenario.

GEEK MODE ON:

I grew up on the original Star Trek...

To truly appreciate Star Trek you have to take into account what the show accomplished. Star Trek used Sci-Fi as a metaphor for every major social issue of the late 1960's. Hiding behind the thin veil of science fiction they tackled racism, the Cold War, Vietnam, the sexual revolution, etc. etc.

Nimoy did a brilliant job or portraying Spock's inner struggles. It is the main reason why his character is so loved and revered by fans. Spock showed strong emotions in at least 3 episodes that I remember. He was also constantly badgered by Bones and Kirk who found emotional motivation in his logical conclusions.

Even the lore of Star Trek shows that Vulcan's struggle their entire lives to control their emotions. The race is never portrayed as being devoid of emotion. Replacing emotion with logic was their solution to destroying themselves. Star Trek used Sci-Fi to show how stupid we were all being during the Cold War. Everyone knew logically that a nuclear exchange would end us all, but emotion (nationalism driven by fear, etc.) kept the world on the brink of destruction.

There is a reason why Star Trek has endured this long. It may be cheese, but it still resonates with people on many different levels.

The corny start to it got on my nerves. I was waiting for them to start having their first argument about what school they ought to send the kid to... Kirk Senior is kinda saying "can I just manage this disaster for a minute, I'll get back to you on that one if I survive?" <wife throws a tonne of F words down the line>

Then the whole "oh, he's allergic to this, let's give him that" so-called humour was just crap IMO.

Then "I SHOULD HAVE KILLED YOU WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!". Hmm, now where have I seen that cliché before. 4 sides of A4 later...

Then "ooh, let's eject the warp core into a black hole". Yes, when I'm trying to get away from something catching up with me, I like to disable the fastest mode of transport available, it always works. The script writer simply looked up previous Star Trek plots and found something techie and dramatic that they could do to get out of the corner he had just written himself into.

If they would re-write those moments with a decent script writer, I would have really enjoyed the movie. As it was, it didn't feel like a wasted evening at the cinema, though I wouldn't have followed it up with getting it on DVD (my wife did).

I would have preferred if they didn't have to do the breaking the time line thing, but otherwise I enjoyed it. Have watched my br copy twice and caught it another 4-6 times when on tv. Only negative is that the space combat scenes were so good would have like many more of them.

Really? The battles were actually one of my biggest complaints. Those ships are supposed to GIGANTIC, yet they zip around like fighters. The slow, deliberate movements builds suspense. Watch Star Trek II or Star Trek III. the ships were beautiful and graceful.

The new movie consisted of battle scenes with shakey-cam-bang-flash-boom effects that left no impressions at all.

I always thought that spocks vulcan ship looked stupid.. the windmill thing and the mining ship was bizarre but kind of spooky, awesome torpedos, not sure why they had water on the floor.

The ships weren't fast at all. They moved like how they looked like they would move. When the Enterprise warps into the debris field, it slowly evades those giant pieces of wreckage.

Did you watch the movie? I mean, they're behaving that way because they aren't taking the simulation seriously when it's obvious that the test subject isn't taking it seriously.

In a previous scene, he asked his friend (not yet an officer) to participate in the simulation with him. There simply was no role to be filled for a medical officer in that particular simulated scenario.

Haven't finished reading your post, but the apple was an obvious call-back to this scene in Star Trek II:
