Errr.

Only a GT, a 3500+ and a VIA chipset, apparently onboard audio.

I can think of better ways to spend that money...

No it doesn't. I priced EVERY component on newegg and even with the inflated shipping costs it's still 200 less.

Check out the Dell Outlet thread, you can get a better configured XPS for way less than that.

Um, WTF? POS mobo, an AGP graphics card, and costs more that the components are worth, this is the HOT DEALS FORUM.

And let us not forget there are a fair number of savvy computer users including gamers who don't know an AGP card from a fax modem as far as hardware goes, and do not build their own or don't want the potential trouble.

moron, compare what a similarly configured dream machine costs from Alienware, Voodoo, or Falcon Northwest. This machine costs about the same as the cost of its components from online discounters, and it comes with warranty, which means it is even competetive with a DIY machine, but offers the benefits of a fully built machine. It is very unsual for Custom made dream machines to cost this low. While I agree that AGP may not be as good as pci-e, all the components are top notch, including the Asus A8V mobo which you master moron call POS ?!?! in fact this mobo has as good a performance as the newest NF4 boards. You can't fault the components in this machine, they are top notch. And btw, to the dell dude, does the XPS come in a Tsunami case, with 550W psu, XMS memory and most importantly - does it have Athlon64 in it ?? [pwned]

6800gt - 310

sony dvd-burner - 56

200gb sata - 112
tsunami - 115
xp home - 94
xms 1 gb stick - 190

total = 1453 SHIPPED

EDIT: all from newegg, i'm sure you can find cheaper

EDIT # 2: or you can get XMS in 2x512 to knock memory down to 164, total = 1427 SHIPPED

EDIT #3: they are not using an Antec TruePower but a TrueControl that takes it down another 20 dollars to 1407.

Dude, do you work for newegg by any chance? Sounds like you do. How much are they paying you to advertise their junk here?

Speaking of the XPS, I've seen a few with Radeon X850XT PE (pwned,) PC4200 DDR2 (pwned,) Audigy 2 ZS (pwned) and 3.6GHz P4 with EMT64 (pwned) for around $1500. They might not have that tacky thermaltake case, but wouldn't you rather have good components instead? You buy a computer so you can use it, not look at it.

EDIT: Check out the outlet thread regardless, there are some awesome deals there every once in a while. I got a Dimension 8400 with Pentium 640 (3.2GHz, EMT64,) 1 gig DDR2, DVD burner and 80 gig HD for $350. Beat that, 31337 newegg monkey!

nice, so it's $200 more then the total costs, but still a nice deal for anyone that doesn't want to nuild their own, and doesn't want to spend $3000 on custom made dream machines. It's interesting to see of HP has A64 dream machines that can compete with this.

No User1234 has been around a while. I can understand where you might get that impression based on his rather.... tenacious demeanor. If you have seen some of his other posts you might see that this behavior isn't unique to his defence of this deal, but rather is indicative of his general behavior.

WOW, you are such a bad ass that you have to make sure people know that they are "pwned"?

A warranty means nothing if the company can't back it up.

your intel system is already pwned by itself, as it can't even beat (in gaming) a much cheaper overclocked A64 3000+ system. Plus you can be sure dell uses worst components for all the stuff they do not give details about (not talking about the video card), like mobo, ram, psu, etc. Here, and in any DIY system you can choose quality components all around. And btw, I checked HP doesn't even compete in this segment.

A warranty means nothing if the company can't back it up.

That is a valid point. My organization bought a few dozen high end (at the time) p4 systems with the most extensive warranty you could get (3 year on-site) from a company called Micro Pro. Our total was probably close to $50K. 2 months later the company was gone without a trace the their B&M office had been evacuated. Needless to say, we spent a lot of money on support and had to handle all of our (many) hardware issues ourselves through the individual component manufacturers.

I believe that ABS is one of the well known boutique PC builders and they have been around for a while. But they are definitely one of the cheapest. Reality check : configure a similar AlienWare system and see how much it would cost - I'd guess at least $500 more.

I mean they regularly adverise in PC Gamer, and Maximum PC. And they got all these awards. So come on....
