Yeah a friend snuck one over from Canada for about $60 bucks. It tastes like Listerine, and i dont think it even contains any wormwood in it! I think they made Absinthe legal nowadays because it no longer contains wormwood. So, other than the history of it, its no different then a Listerine flavored Everclear.

alpha-thujone/Wormwood is an orally toxic, convulsant neurotoxin with no known therapeutic benefits. ß-thujone is less toxic, and less readily absorbed orally. Some absorption occurs through dermal contact and can cause skin rash.

You can get alpha-thujone for a lot less by consuming large quantites Yarrow, Sage, Sagebrush , Mugwort, Armoise or Dalmatian (all of which contain a psychoactive herb load of around 20%-60% alpha-thujone).

I had the real stuff around 20 years ago with a friend that had brought it back from s. Germany 15 years earlier than that. We drained the bottle, I still get flashbacks....

I like absinthe.. i have had and do have a few bottles.. had half of a bottle on my birthday when i was in prague almost 2 years ago

I can tell you that, most of the current ones being made contain little to no wormwood.. however there are some out there that do indeed have it as a pretty main ingredient.

Also... It tends to get me pretty drunk real quick, and it seems to be a different kind of drunk... but at the same time.. i have never halucinated while drinking it,... and when i get to it I can drink quite a bit..

anyway try it out.. I have ordered from the website posted before... i think my first bottle some time ago cost me 85 us... but there are many more brands now available, and prices are quite a bit cheaper..

buy the way there is one made in prauge, that has stuff floating in it.. (wormwood) and is suppose to be 10% thujole (whatever the active ingredient is) but i have yet to see it sold online..

The legal limit for thujone in europe is 10%. You will find that the actual brands that use wormwood all have 10%.
