I love how they will rule directly in contention with accepted norms when it comes to things like international law, Geneva convention, etc; 'i was just following orders' (official duties) isn't a valid excuse for a war fighter to commit illegal acts, why is it for the executive?
The judiciary acting political? NEVER!!!

Ordering the military to kill people is very obviously a core executive function and so the president would be absolutely immune from prosecution for any order he gave.

Ordering the military to assassinate your political rivals is now 100% legal.

It's like The Purge but year round and only for one person.

Don't forget the USSC(6 of 9) could have just signed their own execution orders.

You know as well as I do this court would come up with some reason it was legal for a R and illegal for a D. That's why they must go first.

They know Biden won't do shit.

This really illustrates the short term thinking of the court. Essentially ok'ing dictatorships to form inside our system can have some incredibly unpredictable results. Which is why we generally have worked to prevent that from happening.

Sotomayor just confirmed Trump committing a criminal official act is immune.

Example: Flip the Jan 6 script. Trump had won the election and black people stormed the capital. Trump would have ordered the guard to shoot and kill everyone on the grounds. P2025 allows the AG to take orders directly from the President.

Official but criminal act.

Relatedly this would be a good time for her to announce her retirement upon confirmation of her replacement.

Yeah and that is the problem. If Biden actually gave a shit about the future of this country he would act now. Maybe not kill them, but jail the 6 conservative justices now. Let's see how fast the challenges to this insane ruling work through the courts. Biden can delay the way Trump does until long after he is dead.

It would be better for him to just say he views their decisions as advisory from here on out and will rely on his official capacity to interpret the constitution as controlling.

He should then declare Trump a domestic threat to national security and ship him to GITMO.

American Republic. The grand experiment. 1776-2024.

The only way this isn’t the end is if Biden wins and packs the court to reverse these insane rulings. Otherwise< this will be last election.
Agreed. Expand the court to 100 sitting justices, and EO DC's statehood, both effective immediately.

Let the 100 justice supreme court decide the legality of both in 6 months.

How about this? Expand the court to 50. For each case randomly choose 9 justices from the pool of 50. Also, justices do not get to select their cases. Done by a different arm of SCOTUS. Makes it harder to bribe justices.

Pool of 50 are selected by Presidents made up of 25 Republicans and 25 Democrats.

Also placed SCOTUS under the same laws and rules of Federal judges.

I've seen 51 as a pool #. You can have 5 "courts" of 9 and have each randomly selected as well as their cases per each term. Hell, rotate their terms so that there are always 3 in service. Makes federal system able to handle larger case load as well. Also, gives you a "panel" for each circuit to select cases instead of always relying on a single justice.

With this ruling, it very much rules out that if Trump wins trying to prosecute Biden because Biden would have broad immunity.

If Trump wins, he can just throw Biden (and anyone who disagrees with Trump) down into Gitmo, no prosecution required, no recourse as its perfectly legal now. (Edit: there is one recourse, impeachment, but of course the President can just have any lawmakers who start talking about impeachment added to the rolls at Gitmo as national security threats).

I think the lesson from this ruling is the law no longer matters so Biden could still very well be prosecuted.
