Okay. I got the same bull when I brought the samsclub.com price/model printout. I was told it's a wholesaler and that it's not allowed to pricematch againts them. I stomped my feet and yelled "Point that out in your guarantee!". The manager couldn't. I when outside and called CC customer service. I was then told that the price of this drive after rebates is cheaper than the samsclub. I explained that the pricematch shouldn't be counted againts the final price, but the price out the door. AHHHH! I sleep on it.

Today I called the local Samsclub to findout if this item is in stock and the same price. YES! I then called my local CC to see if it's local would they pricematch. YES!

So, I finally got it.

$211.99 CC Price on 9/3/03
$100.00- MIR
$81.80- Pricematch of $129.84 @samsclub
$30.19 is a hot deal...Thanks!

I'll bet that CC will change their pricematch policy to reflect that they won't PM membership stores after we all pricematch this drive. Still a great deal though.

Both CC and BB are right down the street from my local Sam's B&M. BB has never been willing to pm to Sam's, with the argument that they are a "membership warehouse club" which is actually true, since you must pay to join Sam's in order to buy there. CC was also always unwilling to pm to Sam's for me, using the same argument. They have also both used the "Our final price after rebate is lower so we won't pm" argument many times.

If not for the other thread (see link in OP) I would never have tried to pm to Sam's. But when I saw others reporting their success I decided to give it a try, fully expecting to be turned down. I was extremely surprised that they did the pm! Maybe it helped the first time when I also showed them my Sam's club card, but the 2nd time I never showed them anything but the Sam's Club printout from the internet.

This is certainly a ymmv deal, but I am glad to see some of you are having success. For those that aren't getting so lucky, is their another CC in your area that is closer to a Sam's Club? Maybe if the Sam's is local like mine is it makes the difference?

I was able to get them to match the price, but she did not give me the rebate receipts. I'll just go online and print them out. Hopefully it won't be a problem, it never has been before. Thanks for the heads up on this deal!

If anyone in the DC metro area sees 200s in the 160 box, can you tell me where you saw it? All the stores near me only have 160s

That's why my suggestion is that you purchase the drive, then go back for the pm. That way you already have the register printed rebate forms. Athough it seems the on-line rebate forms should work, unless they say cc.com only. I haven't looked at them though.

And if they say no to the pm, just return the drive.

Well I had to raise all kinds of cain and after asking for the corporate phone# I got the pricematch and the rebate both. I would have tried to pricematch the drive I bought last week as well but I was about too tired of arguing with the division manager at my local CC. He swore he would never PM samsclub again but he would do it for me and no one else this one time. IN fact a friend of a friend tried the same day to pricematch the 2 drives he had bought and was flat out refused and no amount of discussion would sway them on it. Some thing that may or may not help some peeps. Go to their website and check out the pricematch policy LINK click on the highlighted words that are basically "their" definitions of local store advertised price same Item and in stock. (if you click one and expand it it will show all definitions)

Basically by their own policy any store in a *50 mile radius that has advertised online or in printed media to the general public that has the same item in the same box in the same condition available to be bought and/or shipped the same day can be pricematched.

there is nothing said about see store for details store policy may vary or anything

In a nutshell - if I had 50 hard drives of like box content and manufacture and I took an ad out in the local paper saying I had them at the fleamarket for 5 bux they would have to sell their drives for 4.50 by their own pricematch policy - as long as I didnt sell out that is

I mean someone show me where it says a retail store only?

I am still debating calling corporate on this and raising cain about it but I got 400 gigs for 130 bux so Im not in bad shape either way. CC has done us here so dirty in the past with the **old bait and switch routine that I may just inquire of the state attorney general what exactly the law states about displayed policies and who to complain to about businesses who dont follow their own.

* when I asked what was considered within reason as far as a local store I was told 50 miles (after being told 100 miles about 10 minutes earlier by another employee)

** old bait and switch routine - blatantly having sales on items you do not have in stock and using the ad published to get customers in the store with the purpose of selling them the slightly higher version of the sale item.

Nusam - I agree CC stinks. The phone support is worthless. I couldn't even understand the three people I talked to and never was allowed to talk to a supervisor. I know this will swing my way in deciding If I needed to buy something big, like a large screen or something. I swear I heard each one of these reps great me the same way....DA, HELLO?

Update on 9/25/2003: I managed to get the PM to Sam's club at the CC in Tyson's Corner, VA (Washington DC area). It was pretty easy! Of course it helped that I had a printout of Sam's ad. Good luck...

I live in northern VA, but picked up a 160 GB (it was 200 GB inside) last week in Silverdale, WA while traveling. But CC in my area absolutely refused to match Sam's price because it requires a paid membership. I tried several stores with no luck. But I will keep trying - may be I will get lucky!

My CC has been incredibly cool about two PMs on this deal. Way to say "we want more of your business" - and they WILL get it. Good customer service = I come back.

Contrast with my local BB, who are total weasels. I've never successfully PMed them to anyone, they always find some excuse - several times it's literally the sales manager just saying no, no reason, just no.

Obviously, there's some major YMMV here - store to store, manager to manager, experiences are going to vary wildly. Please, please, folks, when your store is cool, send more future business their way. Many of these retail stores have quotas that in particular impact the managers - they don't sell enough, and that cool manager is replaced. And when they're a PITA, I'm sure you're already going to be steering business away, doing your part to help limit that manager's career.

Got it after a minimal hassle. First I called around to the various CC's in Houston.
Found 1 that said maybe to PM Sam's and 1 that said definitely. Went to the definitely.
The Customer Service guy said he would do the PM only if I had a Sam's card, which I did.
So out the door it's: $129.54-10% + tax. Should have $80 in MIR's coming, so I can't complain.
I didn't get a 200gb, but they had 6 others in stock in the back. I didn't feel like
pushing my luck and asking to look through all of them. I was happy with my score!

(Was at West Oaks store in Houston if anyone wants to get in on it and look for a 200gb)

Good luck,

man, I feel kinda bad after doing this.. couple days ago I called and the PC guy told me they couldn't PM Sams, so I went in anyway today. Will make this short as I can.. things looked smoothly and they didn't know they had rebates on it (took it to the camera dept register). The manager then looked up store cost on the drive and said it was $168 and said he would try and PM. Came back and PM'd it, I paid for it, then the rebates printed out, and he was there watching them print out. I waited for the $10 one and he didn't have a problem, then left thinking I could just print them out online. While leaving I noticed send this form in in it's entirety and flipped. Went back to see if I could get my other form and said "My reciept says I should have 2 rebates, can I get my other one?" in which he replied, "no, that was the only rebate ($10) there are no other" and said a few more things. Then I said to him "how can you lie right to my face like that, I saw it printing while I left" Then he started saying "no I didn't say that, I said I can't give it to you we'd can't take that much of a loss", pfft, then I'm like ok, I understand, left, called the rebate center and they said I can just get the one online and send it in. Guess I have a conscience when it comes to deals in which the store is losing tons of money and managers have to watch out for these sorts of things. Oh and btw, store I went to had 2 maybe 3 200 gigs outta 3 on the bottom shelf. This is nice deal since I needed the PCI card cause I'm getting rid of raid for an OC board and have too many drives, hehe.. Lets try to not get too hostile with CC over this one.

Isn't it a manufactures rebate? Even if a company provides the rebate I believe the manufacture gives it back to them...

Another success story here....
I called a cc in San Jose and the sales associate said they would match sam's clubs price on the hd. When I got to the store I talked to another associate who didnt even work in the computer department. I told him I had called earlier and they said they would match it. He went to talk to the manager and they both came back saying there was no sams club within a 30 mile radius so the price match would not work. I told them that I was from sacramento and they're was a sams there and I didnt know there wasnt one in san jose. So he told me I could buy it and go to sacramento and they would price match it there. So I did buy it. And when I got home (in san jose) I called a cc in sacramento and talked to the manager and he did the price matching on the phone. Great deal!

Blah, CC said they'd PM Sam's price until they went to ring it up and saw the rebate. Then they said they wouldn't PM because their PM after rebate was lower than Sam's price. I argued but to no avail. That was a waste of 1/2 hr.

CC seemed to send an email to their stores this morning regarding this Western Digital price match.

I went to my local CC store twice to price match Sam's Club when the WD 160/200 GB drive was sold for $99.99 after two rebates. My local CC store was very cool, called Sam's Club, made sure the price was right and the WD drive was in stock... Then, price was matched.

One week later, I purchased another 160/200 GB drive in CC's second sale when the final price was $119 (couldn't help, when I saw so many 200 GB drives on the shelf ...). But the local store told me that they don't match it to Sam's Club any more. I asked the representative if the corporate policy of price match had changed. She told me that they received an email this morning and stopped the practice to price match Sam's Club.

Went to another CC store (Glenwood store, Raleigh, NC) and confirmed that they didn't price match Sam's. But the funny thing was, the manager first lied that their web page and all their flyers explicitly spelled out the exclusion of warehouse clubs. He also personally defined that Sam's Club is not a "store" as in their price match policy. After I told him that there was no exclusion of warehouse clubs, he searched CC's web page and flyer for 5 minutes but couldn't find anything. Then he suddenly turned to me and said, "you know what, even if I don't find the exclusion in the policy, I'm not going to price match for you!"

I think disagreement on something that is not clearly defined is one thing but lying and being an asshole to the customers is another. This Raleigh CC certainly lost my vote. Not sure if you guys saw any CC managers behaved like this. I simply returned the drive and will never walk in this CC.

Spooner, I don't know for certain and would appreciate others chiming in to confirm or deny, but when I was searching high and low for a 200 in 160 packaging, Sam's, Best Buy, and CompUSA never ever had one - it was only @ CC. BB has the 160 deal this week and so last week every store had like twenty or more of them, and not a single 200 to be found through several stores. So I wonder if the 200 in 160 is only for stores WD likes or something.

I agree, the Raleigh CC have the stupidest managers. They won't give any valid reasons not to price match or they make up reasons. There should be some policy where they can't do that, b/c policies have to be on paper not made up on a whim. The only thing else to do is to get the managers name and complain to the corporate offices that managers are making up false policies. Or something of that sort.
