Yes I am aware it has been in the works for a while now, but like any complacent person, unless it's directly affecting me, I'll pay no mind to it. Well anyway google forced upon me today their hideous new interface. I can appreciate improvements to their site a few they've made over the years such as letting me search by time frame (say search results you'd get in 2005), but their new interface with the new buttons and layout and excessive use of AJAX just screams to me change for the sake of change.

Anyway when I stumbled upon that blog, they had a javascript that you can paste into the browser that will allow you to test out that new google interface. Well in my case, I already have been forced to use the new google interface when I found the link to that blog. So I figured, what the heck, why not try out that script and see what happens...

Well it turns out, using that script, which is suppose to enable the new interface seems to now be capable of reverting back to the old interface if you've already been forced to use the new one. Weird stuff but awesome nonetheless. So while I'm happy to use the Old, less "busy" and not so apple/vista/chrome esque version, I have a bad feeling this joy ride isn't going to last for long and I'll eventually be forced to use the "new and improved!" google interface because some people can't help themselves from changing things just for the sake of it.

We all know you don't think before you post but there's already a thread on this that's been on the front page for a while.

I don't get the complaining. Does the forum sidebar here piss you off? All that info used to be at the top, now it's tucked away to the left. Big deal. I actually like it better. (Now, the iGoogle tabs-on-the-left, now that is useless! )

If you HATE it...don't USE it.

No one is forcing you to use Google as your search engine.

Bing and Yahoo will be glad to have your business.

everything about the new interface sucks. Strangely though, I didn't get the Windows XP default button look on the homepage but did get the nasty crap for the search, and only the search. It's space inefficient, I don't like the excess use of ajax, it's slower than it ought to be (inherently), it adds more crap than I care to see, I just don't like it! It was nice they at the top (in the older interface) added a + symbol so that if you want to, you can expand it and select the options you want, if you so choose. But this crap they have now is just useless and frustrating. Some stupid asshole developer just couldn't help themselves and HAD to change the look of the site.

I hate people who change things for the sake of change. They're the same assholes who can't own the same car for more than a year and are probably constantly changing apartments or houses...it's fucking annoying. Can't sit in the same fucking spot for too long otherwise something "bad" will happen.. Sure stagnation can be a problem, but that's more along the lines of "google does search and only search" vs. "google diversifying into other products while still keeping their existing products". I'm happy with the latter over the former but changing things about your existing products while adding no functionality or seriously damaging existing functionality is where I draw the line.

When Microsoft drops support of XP, I'm going to drop support of them.. That's how much I dislike their newer crap. I only begrudgingly accept the usage of XP because it still has many ties to its old operating systems. I was hoping Vista would make things better but all it did was continue the status quo for the things that I didn't like about Windows and got rid of all the things that I DID like..

Google: If I wanted to use "bing" I'd be using it already... get it? Further more, Microsoft's bing does a hell of a lot better job at being BING than YOU can possibly be at being a BING imitator.
Microsoft: If I wanted an Apple computer, I'd already be using one. You've managed to take all of the qualities that makes me dislike Mac OS and have put it into your latest OS'. Why the hell should I use your operating system now? You've nearly killed the gaming market along with the game publisher's and their draconian DRM schemes, you've continued the status quo of making bloated, nagware and have removed compatibility with older software that I still use. This isn't like the case of Apple going from Motorola to IBM processors or from IBM processors to X86.. Your bread and butter OS has been using X86 from the beginning yet you can't make a decent layer that will facilitate decent compatibility with old software that used to work with your old OS's? What the fuck? Your profit margins are 30%, you've had a like 6 years to release vista and all you assholes have managed to come up with is an Apple OS clone.

Ebay: I hate you guys. Your service sucks, I hate paypal and you've managed to make browsing your site for crap to buy slower and more painful thanks to your stupid ajax web interface. Scammers are as prevalent as they've ever been, you forcing people to use paypal has solved nothing except to increase your profits.

I hate you guys, you all suck!

What I don't understand is why google is soooo accomodating in some instances but in other instances, it's their way or no way at all? I mean on google maps or gmail, they'll even let you revert as far back as to HTML only functionality yet on the google homepage, it's their nonsense or nothing at all!

Thanks for suggesting a fix. It doesn't seem to work for me. I went to www.google.com, pasted the code into my address bar, clicked enter, and nothing happened; nothing happened when I refreshed the page, either.

About your "change for the sake of change" thing: a company as big as Google doesn't make such a huge change for nothing. This must have something to do with their business model. They might really be interested in getting users to use advanced search features.

Or maybe they want people to start looking at a dynamic bar on the lefthand side of the screen, so that when ads are displayed in the bar, they'll be more willing to click them.

If you look at the new interface, you can see it's a swipe at bing.. Their paranoia about losing customers to Bing is causing them to make a shitty imitation of it. One reason I don't like 'BING' is because it's fucking slow, so now they're trying to copy the "good" and "the bad"...even though it's all bad. There isn't anything that I like about Bing yet they're copying them.. Just as bad as Microsoft copying Apple..

lol do you know what an enourmous lead Google has over Bing, or any other search engine? It's years of R&D. Google has so many features that nobody uses and are most likely just trying to make them more available to everyone by adding a new bar.
