I have an X2 4400 oc'ed to 2600MHz. Idle/Load temps at 41C/51C. Iam thinking of getting the AC Freezer 64 Pro. Will it be worth it?

Yes. It is an excellent heatsink & fan for the money. So easy to install too which is a bonus. Keeps my 3200+ at 2.3Ghz around 28 idle not sure what the load temp is around 35 - 40 I think.

IMO, the Freezer 64 Pro is no doubt the best money can buy right now. It works up there with the best of them and is half the price of the Zalman CNPS9500. What more can you ask from a heatsink?

Do not lose or toss out the retail HS as you may need it at some point.
It's got four heat pipes, does it not.? That's a VG HS. The 64Pro will cool a little better
and in a quieter fashion.

From what I've been told there is a number on the stock fan that's important in the
event of a warrenty claim. Do not lose the stock/retail fan.

First you talk about it being the best regardless of cost, and then you qualify that statement by "working up there with the best of them"and by mentioning its value?

I'm not saying it's a bad HSF, but there are HSFs that perform better than it.

First sentence means: it's a good deal.
Second sentence means: it performs well and is half the price of the Zalman 9500

Does that clear it up?

ambient is at 24C as well. I'm using the fan that came with the hsf of course, in an antec tx1050 case. 3x80mm, 1x92mm, 1x120mm fans. It's pretty quiet actually..

yeah i know, i was surprised too.. the entire hsf is literally cold to the touch.. I lapped the hsf AND the heat spreader on the cpu, so with just a tiny bit of AS5 in between its making really good contact..

Where do you guys usually get your paper for lapping? My local hardware store only has 120 grit. Just curious...

Thanks!

Those that show no profile and disable PMing lack cred on this board in my experiance here.

ACE Hardware has wet or dry up to 1500 grit. I find no need to go beyond 800 grit. Once
800 grit is used it performs much like 1200 grit. A mirror shine or polishing of the face is
to be discouraged. If you want a mirror shine use AS-5 as the polishing agent, using a good
coffee filter, then use AS-5 as your TIM of choice.

Read me and be sure to click on the Easypckits link. http://www.overclockers.com/articles862/
I use full sheets of wet or dry when lapping. The Easypckits offers 1/4 sheets and that's
a bit crowded for me to work. His tutorial is VG, read it well.

Dead flat surfaces*WILL*need atleast thermal oil between them to compensate for thermal working of
the joined pieces. Why?? Fretting, the introduction of air and moisture over time leading to oxidation.

I continue to be amazed by those that nit-pick with links but offer no hands on experiance.

I used the ultra kit from here LINK for 6.99 shipped.. Comes with 280, 400, 600, 800 wet/dry, alcohol wipes, and 3 cutting/lapping compounds. It's enough to do at least 2 hsfs, and the price was perfect
