For those who received their copy... is there any difference between the academic version vs. the reg retail version?

And what the difference betw the retail and the oem version in terms of capability? ie. its my understanding that with oem version, u cant install on multiple computers or that if you upgrade ur comp (particularly the mobo) you need to call M$ and get new cd key. Please advise.

I just received my academic home prem. upgrade from Campus tech. So they are shipping, even though their order tracking just says approved.

Did it come UPS?

Yes, from Illinois. I'm in Wisconsin, so it probably shipped out yesterday.

The package says the terms of use are at www.windowsvista.com/useterms , but that page doesn't seem to be up and running yet. As far as I can tell there is no difference between academic and retail. The academic version also has an insert with information on how to order 64-bit media.

So, just to clarify...your order showed up without you receiving a tracking number? Also, did your status not ever change from "approved"?

Does anyone know if campustech has vista in stock.?

Mine has shipped. Try their "Live Help", maybe they could tell you.

Did you order the academic home premium upgrade? Mine still just says approved .

Mine too, and I ordered on the 24th. I've sent an email asking about my order but i haven't received a response back yet. I'm going to call tomorrow.

Received mine today. I was never e-mailed any shipping conformation. My status did change to "shipped" though.

Have you ever noticed how, on an OEM machine like a Dell or HP, that the Key Codes on the COA stickers on the cases are different from the Key Codes on the installed versions of XP? On Dells that have the hidden recovery partition, you don't need the Key when you reload them back to "as new". It automatically uses the Key that it shipped with. Seems to me, that leaves you with an "extra" OEM Key. I've used Dell OEM XP Home CDs to load XP on HP & Compaq PCs, using the Key Codes on their stickers. In those situations, it was because of failed hard drives, so I couldn't use Belarc Advisor or Magical Jelly Bean to get the original Key Codes, and the owners didn't have their recovery disks, etc. Recently I had a friend who'd peeled the sticker off of his HP to put it away for "safekeeping". Naturally, when he needed it, he couldn't remember where he put it. So we used my handy-dandy Dell OEM XP Home CD (a burned SP2 slipstreamed version) and the Key Code from the sticker on the case of his girlfriend's Dell to reload his HP. After it was done, I attempted to activate it online, and it failed. So I called the Microsoft phone number, went through their rigamarole of reading them the code that came up when activation failed, and filling in the new code that they gave me. Surprisingly, it was simple & painless. So my first question is: can it be that all OEM XP machines shipped with TWO valid OEM Key Codes, the one that's installed, and the one that's on the sticker? My second question is: if you have to have XP installed to use the Upgrade version of Vista, does it have to be an ACTIVATED installation of XP, or can it just be sitting there, freshly loaded from an OEM XP CD?

I noticed the same thing with my Gateway with MCE2005, the installed key is different than the one on the side of the case. After I upgrade to Vista, I am going to see if I can use one of the keys to activate another installation of MCE2005

I called up campustech today and they said my order shipped on the 30th with UPS 3-5 Day. My account online still says 'approved' and I did not receive any type of email confirmation. I hope to get it tomorrow. I'm in NW Indiana.

CampusTech is a joke. I have called them 3 times this week, and each time they have told me mine shipped "yesterday." But, they can't give me a tracking number. Today my status finally changed to "shipped," still no tracking number.

I called on Monday, they said my package shipped the previous Friday. I called on Wednesday b/c I still didn't have a tracking number, they told me it shipped Tuesday. I called today, they told me it shipped today. Who knows if my order will ever actually show up, but this is certainly the last time I shop from CampusTech. Bunch of liars and idiots for "customer service." Sorry for the long post but I needed to get that rant off my chest.

EDIT: By the way, I ordered January 24th.

Same story here. I ordered from CampusTech on the 24th and the academic super store on the 29th. I received my order from the Academic Superstore today and I keep getting the run around from CampusTech. I know who gets my business from now on.

I am debating should I buy this version for 70 or wait a bit later and buy the upgrade for ultimate. I am mainly using it for gaming and mult-media purpose and soem school and work related stuff.

It all depends on which features you want to utilize. Check out the Wiki entry about the different versions and the features that are unique to each. I bought home premium because I wanted the media center features but I didn't need the extras that are included in ultimate. $70 is a great deal if you don't need the features that are in the higher up versions.

I think they mean that the academic version is no different that the retail upgrade version....so yeah. Besides, I don't see a price difference.

Mine finally showed up yesterday, which was a pleasant surprise considering I NEVER got my tracking number. Shipped from TN.

Vista is pretty awesome...I like it more than I expected. Everything works fine, but RAID was a bit of a hassle to set up.

Thus ends my first and last transaction with CampusTech.

I still haven't received mine. I've been going back and forth with a sales person over there and she first told me it shipped on the 30th. Then in a few emails later she said that the reason I haven't received it yet was because they didn't actually get them for shipping until the 31st. Even though she told me it had already shipped on the 30th. The people over there are idiots. I'm buying my software from the Academic Superstore in the future.

Very similar to my experience. Their customer support people just don't know what's going on over there. They were courteous enough but that company just doesn't have its act together. That being said, $70 for a full retail version of Home Premium (if you do the workaround) is a fantastic deal, but I won't be shopping from these guys again in the future. Hope yours shows up soon duzy.

THE CAMPUSTECH BLUNDERS CONTINUE!!!!

This one actually is for my benefit though. As I posted above, my order arrived on Monday. Well, today (Wednesday), what arrives on my doorstep??? Why, its a SECOND COPY!!!

These guys truly are incredibly unorganized. They appear to have only charged my credit card once, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on that over the next several days. No way in hell am I sending this back to them. The second copy is unsolicited, so it is now rightfully mine. Now to figure out what to do with it...

Ordered mine early yesterday morning and just received it today. Paid for the overnight shipping to be sure I got it and didn't have the problems other people are having. Did not receive a tracking number so I called their cust. service and they said they didn't have a tracking number from their distributor yet. Seems like the distributor is lacking more so than Campus Tech.

Oh, and my order tracking on their site did say it was shipped out.

Ordered a copy of Home Premium from Campustech when their bargain first hit their web site last weekend, and canceled it because they lacked tracking info for 4 days. Like someone else mentioned their distributor is really who is handing out the product...it is not coming from Campustech.

Went to Academic Superstore and ordered the same thing yesterday morning and just got home from work to find it on my porch! I am enjoying being an old man college student again!

The version I got is in retail packaging. It has an "Academic Price - Not for use in a commercial environment" sticker on the outside of the box.

Sticker image here

What a break! You probably got my copy though lol. ;-)

Still hasn't arrived for me yet. I've sent two emails in the last three days that have gone unanswered so far. Also, when ever I call to get a tracking number I am sent to a voice mail box and whose ever box that is hasn't returned my messages either. They didn't have a problem charging my credit card though...
