Academic - Vista Home Premium Upgrade

I called to check on my "shipped" order today. Live chat said sorry I can't connect to customer database. The phone number she gave me said voice mail for this address full, stay on line for operator... when operator picked up recording said "you are disconnected".

I'm worried this company has financial problems and is playing the float with incoming order funds to buy the software. Or perhaps (apologies to all worthy academics on this thread) they are fuzzy-headed former professors who can't think in business terms.

Is there a 64-bit version of Vista Premium? And is would it be worth the extra $ to get that version?

If you want to talk to a real person, who might be able to help you out, call the number and dial extension 133. That will bring you to Bob Smith. He's the sales representative for all institutional purchases in the 'orange' zone. He was able to help me out and made 'people up the ladder' (his words) know about my order and it then shipped the next day.

Thanks for the info, duzytata. If I don't get anything in a few days I will pursue that.

I just called and they say they are behind in entering tracking numbers into their computer to be emailed out, but that Vista shipped Fri. and Office shipped today (Mon.).

He made it sound like all the backlogged orders went out on the same days. Kind of an odd way to do it, but perhaps they were waiting on Microsoft...

I'm assuming the academic version can only be put on one computer. I'm getting a new pc, so should i wait until i get it or can i put it on the one i have now and then on the one i'll be getting?? thanks for the info

It's not OEM so it is transferable.

My stepdad was trying to tell me that even if a retail version is purchased that you can put it on 3 other computers, but have to pay $50 for each one. So was wondering if i did put the academic version on 2 computers if i'd end up paying an additional $50 for putting it on a second computer???

That's the family licensing plan he's confusing. You can buy a retail copy of Vista Ultimate, and then get two copies of Premium upgrade for $50 each. It will cost you around $360 for three licenses of Vista.

You can buy this copy of Vista Premium, install it on a computer, remove it from that computer, then install it on a different computer. The license can only work on one computer at any time, but you can transfer the license to different computers.

If you're going to build a new computer in a few months and need a copy of Windows for it, you can deactivate Vista from the current computer it's running on and install it on your new computer.

To give CampusTech their due, I got both orders, each arriving two days after the day they told me they shipped.

The flakiness of the company was a surprise after mostly using Newegg for the last few years, but I'd probably use them again rather than send verification etc to another academic software company.

I scanned my school ID and took a screenshot of my last billing statement (paperless EVERYTHING at my school). I spoke with somebody there and they said that would be acceptable. The JPEGs were sent via email since that's supposed to be quicker.

I sent a scanned jpg of the front and back (had to scan the ID back as that is where my current registration sticker was placed - valid until June 2007) to Academic Superstore's validation email.

Got my update today from AcademicSuperStore.com:
"We have verified your academic eligibility, and your order will be processed shortly."

Verification went smooth, and this is my second email from them. They seem very easy to deal with. All I did is fax a pay stub, and school ID (GF is a teacher ) with the order number.

I got my academic update yesterday. Can someone tell me how to get the 64-bit version? The DVD says that it contains the 32-bit version only.
