Acceptable idle gpu temperatures

I have an amd rx 470 4gb red devil gpu. The card seems to want to stay on 47% fan speed at idle, which brings it down to 28C degrees and keeps it there. This was annoying me a bit, but since there is not yet any official open source tool in linux to tweak the settings of the card, i had to compile a gui tool from:

https://github.com/marazmista/radeon-profile

With this tool i can set the fan speeds manually to any speed i want and then when i game i just set it back to auto fan speed. Now my question is what is an acceptable idle temp for a gpu, so that i would not be hurting the card when i set the custom fan speed? When i set it to 27%~ fan speed, it sits at around 40-46C temperature when browsing the internet etc. Is that an acceptable temperature, or should i set the fan speed a bit higher?

My RX480 Nitro turns off its fans at idle. When they are off, it hangs in the mid 40's. You should be perfectly fine with yours in this range. Really, you can have it go up into the 50's if you want the fans even quieter. You will not hurt anything at all.

My gigabyte gtx 1080 idles at around 43 degrees Celsius and during load it used to cross 75 degrees. Then I just opened up the Gigabyte Xtreme Application, set a custom fan curve and that helped a lot to bring down the temps!

Now, under load the gpu does not go above 65 degrees

Card shouldn't go over 50C in idle or normal desktop use, so I'd say 40-50C is a good temperature. Personally my custom profile is set to zero fans all the way up till 50C, 40% up till 74C and the Max speed from 75C, in order to sustain high clocks.

You might want to increase your fan speed to 60-70% so that you don't cross 75 degrees!
