I got myself a Dell PowerConnect 2708 Switch and trying to access its Web-Interface to access the setting. In the manual, it says the default IP address is 192.168.2.1 but when I type that in in IE and Firefox I cannot get it, not even a login screen, just page not found.
I have tried different hardware configurations to access it:
-- 1 port of the 2708 Switch-->Single Computer
Assigns the computer IP 169.254.34.63 Subnet: 255.255.0.0, if that helps. Seems like it always assign IP in 169.254.XXX.XXX

-- Router-->2708 Switch-->Computer
Assigns the computer IP 192.168.1.114 (Seems like the router is assigning the IP, as router IP is 192.168.1.1), if that helps.

Please, let me how I can access the 2708 Switch's Web-Gui as I have to make some changes to the setting.

Thanks

Easiest would be to console into the switch via your COM port and change it the management address to 192.168.1.x from the command line...assign it an address outside of your DHCP range. Easiest would be to make it 192.168.1.2 and adjust your range accordingly. Not 100% sure if that Dell's have a console, if not, move on...

Take your laptop and connect it to the 2708 like in your first diagram. Your getting a 169.x.x.x on the laptop because there is no avaliable DHCP server. Assign a static address of 192.168.2.2/255.255.255.0 to your laptop and web into 192.168.2.1. From there assign the switch to the 192.168.1.x network, default gateway to 192.168.1.1, plug it into the router, and set yourself back to DHCP.

Thank you very much, recommendation #2 worked like a charm. Thank you again.
Happy New Year to you
