Maybe Gary's news is that this is the best overclocking board ever. Maybe the news is that all of us who got it made a bigger mistake than we thought. lol

Yeah that would be just my luck. He really has me wondering what this "other intersting news" would be, and if it has anything to do this board.

"Interesting News" has me more worried than if he would have said "Good News", Interesting is never a way to describe good news. When my sparkler bomb blew up in my face I didn't think, "that was good", I thought "That was interesting".

Did anyone have a problem using the RAID on here, i used the drivers from the Giga-byte website, and xp installed fine, but once it was done installing, it just gets to the splash screen then it reboots. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Here is the news -

Do not yell at me, burn down my house, or talk bad to my dog please.

In order to protect the operation of the X3000 graphics engine, Intel instituted a hardware lock in the chipset that turns off asynchronos memory timings. This means the boards are not going to be overclocking any where near their P965 counterparts. Gigabyte sent me another bios that is suppose to maximize overclocking but on average depending on the quality of your chipset, memory, and CPU utilized (affects the memory controller strap) they told us not to expect to much above 350FSB (at this time, they are still working with it but looking at the straps, seems impossible for it to go above 400) or so. I have not tested the latest beta, but if you want to take a chance on it, then PM me please.

Huge bummer. How many people are sending theirs back?
15% restocking fee and return shipping.... is it worth it?

This is what I am wondering as well. Is it worth the 15% restocking fee and return shipping.

Just realize this is a Intel limitation. I found the same overclocking limits on the Asus board also, in fact the Gigabyte clocked a little better today. Hopefully, I can have some overclocking numbers up tomorrow for everyone so you have a good idea what the board can actually do. Of course, I am sure we will hear that the G965 was never really intended for overclocking.

So anyone tried to plugin a pci-e display card insteal to use the onboard one ? Because when you plugin a pci-e display card, the motherboard should auto disable the on board intel x3000, it may solve the maxium FSB 350 problem, right ?

If yes I'll go to buy as cheap pci-e card insteal of return my motherboard because it is too trouble.....

If you guys are going to exchange your MB, i found you can get the 965P for 10 cheaper than newegg from chiefvalue ($139.33) ******/product/productdetails.aspx?item=13-128-012
You may want to wait for Gary's results though.

Oh, what a bummer. While disappointed I won't be returning mine. Way too much of a hassle.

Actually my overclocks have been higher with the on-board video enabled, still working with it today.

You have PMs turned off and did not leave your email address for the bios.

Yes. This thread is talking about the differences. The main point being that the G version does not seem to overclock as well because of an Intel limitation due to the onboard graphics.

However, for the price at ZZF (If it holds) it is a superb buy for someone like me who is on a budget and can purchase a PCI-Express card later.

If it was in stock, it would already be ordered

Gary, how high can you overclock with the latest beta bios ? Actually I can overclock to 370 stable but not higher, but with a 965P I can overclock to 480 with the same hardware.

BTW did you tried to plugin a PCI-E display card(disable onboard display) and try how high can it go for ? If it can go for about 450 I'll go buy a cheap 73000LE insteal of return my board.
